Default ? for those using Gmail and the 8830 - 08-29-2007, 10:46 PM

Aren't they suppossed to reconcile? I mean If I delete the email on my BB and hit Delete on BB and Email Box when the prompt comes up shouldn't it delete on both and vice/versa? The emails are coming to my Gmail inbox and Blackberry but it's not deleting from either one. If I delete it on the bbery its still on Gmail. If i delete from Gmail it's still on the bb.

Mine is unreliable and very slow. Not like being on BES. It's the carrier's BIS that is interacting with gmail that makes it slow.

That's what happens to me too. Once in a while, it does delete from Gmail, but it's rare.

Wow that's rather disappointing as it was a major selling point of the 8830. I get soooooooooooo many emails in 5 different accounts (orders, returns, etc) that it's a real hassle. But I'm a one man show and can't really afford to put in my own BES server.

I have been told the GMail app on the BB works better.

Muah, you don't need to put in a BES server, check out the BES vendors in the sponsor section of this forum.

This is what I would suggest to. You can go with a hosted BES setup. I was with ExchangeMyMail for a while and they are excellent. Customer support was fantastic, too.

The GMail application is great, except it lacks one ley feature and the whole point of having a BB: Push. You can leave it running in the background and it will poll every 15 minutes or so, but even then there is no notification that you have mail... you have to manually go into the GMail app and refresh to see your new messages.

If they would only fix that one small thing, adding some sort of notification... I would use the GMail app.

strange. My gmail reconciles very well. If i "delete on blackberry and mail server" it deletes it from my gmail account instantly. Have not run into any problems with it at all.

Man WTH is going on. It's split like 50/50. Some saying it works flawlessly for them (lucky bastards) some saying it rarely or never works.

I wish I was in the first 50%

I'm having great performance, too.

Verizon, baby!

Not perfect, though. I call my phone from various landlines and have friends call me in my presence occasionally to see if my connection is solid. Sounds cheesy, I know, but on a few tries, my phone went to voicemail and never rang. Very disappointing since my BB is my ONLY phone; no landline.

I still have 97% love for my VZW 8830... (especially with the new iPhone theme I got from eveek.com from a tip on a different topic).

I have had great success with it as well. VZW 8830 and latest software update. Not using the gmail app.

I too can not delete emails from the gmail server if I delete it from my BB8830. It's frustrating because you need to remove messages twice which defeats the purpose on relying on one source.

Is this controlled through a setting?

I think I get it now. You must reconcile manually in order for messages to be in sync. I don't like that idea but oh well.

I haven't noticed any problems... maybe (to all having reconciling problem) you need to arrange the email settings on the BB so that 'in conflict' the 'handheld wins'. While reading your gmail press the menu button, go to 'options' then 'email reconciliation', select email account, then in the 'in conflict' option select 'handheld wins'.

You can also go to the Menu (while reading gmail) and select 'reconcile now'. Works fine for me.

Hope this helps someone.

Same here. Not instantly, but it always deletes.
