I just picked up an 8830 that is great for my work email and calendar through our company BES. I also want to be able to check my other email (like AOL) on the phone, but I don't want it to go to the "messages" folder only to the AOL folder. Is it possible to do that? On my older WM5 PDA, I could check my AOL mail a few times a day when I needed to...otherwise it didn't show itself. On the 8830, it's cluttering up my messsage box, which I'd like to restrict to work. The only way that I can see is to not "forward email to phone" which prevents me from checking it at all. Is there a better way?

There is not a way to separate this. The Messages folder is a repository for ALL messages, including SMS and MMS messages. So it will show in both the Messages folder, and the specific e-mail folder.

Go to email options and set your inbox/messages setting to Separate.

Sorry, you CAN separate the SMS and MMS messages from the e-mail messages.. By default they do go to the Messages folder, but they can be separated using JRSCCivic98's instructions. But you CANNOT separate the other e-mail messages in to just their folders. I should have been more clear.

As has been stated by others already, you can't do what you asked. But as for your final question, yes, I do think there's a "better way" that you can employ to basicallly accomplish exactly what you're trying to do. Simply quit using the "messages" folder entirely and hide it. Use the separate folder for your work email address, the separate folder for your AOL address, and separate the SMS/MMS via the settings already discussed here. Doesn't that accomplish what you want? You now have a mail folder with just your work emails and no other clutter - a separate folder with just your AOL email - and SMS/MMS messages are separate in their own folder.

If you pretend (or hide) the Messages icon you can check email seperatly in each email account icon setup. This is how I do it. I leave my messages icon unhidden, but never use it. I set my call log not to log to Messages so there's nothing else going in there but the emails (combined), but since I check them in each email account icon they get read in Messages as well automatically. Very clean setup... I don't like the idea of the Messages icon/folder. I think it's a stupid way of "putting all your eggs in one basket". I really see no benefit for it, but I'm sure long time BB users will disagree. I like having all my stuff separate... it keeps clean for me. It's a personal preference for me and with he 8830 it's very doable.

I think the "Messages" folder is just leftover from adding new stuff. The separate email folders were new with BIS 2.0 and they just never changed the other stuff. Messages folder is the default location where all BES mail, sms, BIS mail, call logs, etc. goes. I just think there is more customizing they could add to the "Messages" folder but haven't heard of anything changing in the near future. It's just "the way it is."

I have the Sprint 8830, but does anyone know how to get to that "Personal E-mail Setup" section? I see a setup wizard, but it only gives me an option for BES activation...

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan properly provisioned on your account?
You should call Sprint and verify. In my experience, they are notorious for adding the wrong data plans.

Unless things are different on the 8830 BES mail only arrives in Messages.

What I'm wondering is: if I keep the personal email messages in the main message in box, does this mean that the personal emails are running through my work's server?

I would think this is NOT the case since I'm using a BES (provided by my employer) for corporate emails and a BIS (provided by Vzw and BB) for my personal emails - but since they run through the same inbox (on my handheld only) i figured I would ask the group.

They don't really go through your work's server. All is logged on the BES so they know you're receiving BIS mail on your device.

There is an aftermarket program out now that will create a separate folder for your BES mail. Search for "BES Mailbox" and you'll find it.

don't mind them knowing i'm receiving BIS emails, just would like to keep the content of my BIS emails, and who I'm emailing with, secure, as the content is personal and not work related.

You need to assume that your company can see all you do on your BB. They can. It would take some digging, I've been told, but the admins can see all data going to and from your device.

Then I would suggest not replying to any BIS mail you receive on the device.
Your employer can easily force all replies to be routed through your company BES using your corporate email account.

If you want to keep your BIS mail private... then don't have your device attached to a BES. Assume nothing is private when you're on a BES.

Is this still the case when using the 3rd party software that John Clark mentioned in a previous post in this thread today (10/13)? or does that effectively stop the BES from doing this?

Yes. That app only separates the mail from the folder on the BB. The data still goes through all the same connections.
