Default sprint 8830 is amazing - 08-31-2007, 11:02 PM

Hi-- I just got back from traveling around Israel for 2 weeks.

I was on the sprint international data plan. I used AIM all the time and did not miss an e-mail. AIm worked great and people could not believe I was on AIM from Israel and it was going through so fast. I was even in Jordan for 1 day and it worked. I was in areas where no one I was with had service but the 8830 worked great. It was completely seamless I did not have to change any settings. For voice calls I bought a cellcom sim card. The sprint 8830 is completely unlocked. I just swapped out the sim cards and the phone worked right away. Seriously I have had other GSM phones and none have worked as well as this. I got my sprint bill and the only charge was for the 69.99 data.
8830 is the best phone for traveling. I was in the middle of nowhere in the desert and i had clear service.

Wonderful!!! I leave for Portugal in 10 days, hope I have the same experience you did and my email just arrives.

I have the same $69.95 BB Intl Plan, Sprint gave me the names of the 2 GSM providers I should use (by setting the network on "manual" and searching) and also had me add an APN setting. Was that how you set your 8830 up before you left?

I called sprint 2 days before I left and I think over the phone i may have switched it on manual. They even gave me instructions as to what I should do when I land. I didn't have to do anything. It was completely seamless. I just turned it on when I landed and I had all my emails and messages and was automatically using cell com. When I landed I had a sms from sprint giving instructions for what to do if my phone wasnt working and how to set it up. Serisouly this is the best phone ever. Did not miss an email and it it really is completely unlocked. I bought a sim card at the airport and I just put it in and it worked no problems.

I was very nervous traveling. I was meeting a group and our meeting details were by email and I was alone for the the first few days. I called sprint a lot before I left to be sure i would work and what I needed to do when I was on the plane. the phone just worked. I didnt have to adjust anything. The only think I had to adjust was when I came back to nyc I had to select the network for home.
