I got the BB 8830 (sprint) a few weeks ago. The thing that I can't stand is how long it takes to start ringing. It will show on the screen a in coming call right away but it takes ten seconds longer to actually ring.. I have missed a few calls because it takes so long. It isn't set at gradual ring where it gets louder and louder either. It just takes forever to start. I use a stock ringer and have tested calling my phone on other phones and don't get it.

One option, lengthen the amount of time to voicemail.

I have never noticed one take a full ten seconds to ring. That is a long time, very odd. Look at your Profile, Advanced, Active Profile and edit the phone setting alerts, and make sure you don't have it on vibrate THEN ring, remove the vibrate and see if it rings quicker.

There is always just a slight lag. I have caught, out of the corner of my eye, the screen light up for no reason and had just enough time to think, "hey, a call is coming in" and then have it start to ring. I've never seen it lag more than a second or two, though. 10 seconds is a little extreme. Do you have other apps running in the background?

How do you check to see which apps are running on the 8830? I saw somewhere that it was alt+esc. Which key are they referrimng to as "esc"? I must be slow...

Phone logs, BB Messenger, Browser and Messages.

I closed BB Messenger and the Browser but they're still showing as running. Will those four always stay running?

As far as the late ringer, I too only see a one- to two-second delay before the ring kicks in....

hit the blackberry key, left of the track ball and select switch application. that will show all apps running. You'll have the default 5 running all the time, other than that, select the programs running and than hit the berry key again and go to the bottom and close them.

Liv, those four will always show, sometimes more (like BBAlerts, BeamBerry, etc., if you have those).

Yep, BB Alerts is also showing in addition to the other four, but I'm more than happy to keep it that way. I couldn't live without BB Alerts!

JSanders brought up a good point. I found that having vibrate+ring does take a little bit. I use vibrate when in meetings or something, other than that, it's ringer only. Since this has already been hijacked, guess I'll add a question to it since it's been brought up. With those 4-6 apps that are always running, is there a way to close those so they don't run in the background at all? If I click them and close they still show. Just wondering how much faster it would be with 1-2 apps vs 4-6 apps.

I've never seen a way to close those base apps. For instance, you have to have the Message app running (or what's the point of having email?) and the phone app (its gotta be running to ring, I guess?) and homescreen.
The browser runs in background because other apps invoke it into use.

Yeah, that makes sense, I have the main ones and the BB Messenger and Brickbreaker running. I don't use those enough to have them running in the background I would not think.

BBMessenger will run in the background, can't close it.

Also running on mine, (can't close) is Berry-a-Code, Stowaway Shasta KeyBoard drivers, BeamBerry, MyAlarm, BBToday, and sometimes others.

I actually love that feature! It vibrates twice before it rings... haven't missed a call yet. I'm in meetings all the time and gives me time to answer the call before it starts ringing... sorry, I haven't figured out how to change that though...

try in the advanced profile setting set the vibrate function to one. The phone vibrates before it rings so if you have it set to 3 it would delay the ringer by about 10 seconds
