Default 8830 spontanious reboot - 09-17-2007, 08:04 AM

it's happened twice so far, related to the USB connector. I am not sure of the exact timing but happened I believe just after I plugged in USB power (factory power supply). Also seems to have happened once on the USB to PC connector.

Has anyone seen this? I get a spontanious either reboot or shut down where I have to pull the battery and restart. VZW but my company's bb image may be tweeked too.

I had this same problem on my first 8830. I called customer service, told them about the problem and they sent me a new one (may have been a refurb), but it was a warranty replacement.

If you have any application upgrades from your Desktop Manager, it always restarts the phone after it installs them...

thanks..yeah, although it's not that, it's something unplanned or wrong ... .. (although I do like the auto reboot and also that desktop mgr told me and got some app upgrades for me - pretty cool)....

hmm... I was hoping to avoid a refurb..wonder how long the warranty is on vzw, I'll have to check .. anyone else?

what steps did you have to do with tech support to be authorized for the replacement?

I just called VZW, they put me in to the wireless data tech support team, who first starting going through all of these questions with me. What apps, memory card installed, etc. I told him it only happens when I plug in the power supply. All else remains the same. He said it could be a corrupted applicaiton. I repeated, it only happens when I have it plugged in. This went on until I got more frustrated.

He then said let's wipe the device. I said no. (esp. not now).

This is crazy. I don't think it's this person, but rather their procedures they follow.

It's pretty obvious that it has something to do with the power.

Did they just offer to replace it or did they give you this runaround first?

It makes a huge difference if you are a company or a user... I know for one that our company has a pretty good policy with VZW... I am a Blackberry administrator here and we can call in, say we've deployed 500 of these in the last 4 months and know about them, it's broken. They overnight a new one to us. VZW doesn't seem to care too much about their personal users, they only try to keep the businesses happy. I'm on my 3rd 8830 because of the problems I've had...

There is, without a doubt, a short in the USB connector. Get you unit replaced.

guys, thanks. Yup, my plan is our corp. discount but personal liability phone. Although I do have 6 handsets on my account so you would figure that's worth something - the cust. service reps seem to understand that, just not the technicians.

Must be a short... I'll call back and get them to replace it. Esp. while it should still be under a 30 day warranty. (although I did get the extended replacement, this is a warranty item and the phone is still new).

Thanks for the replies!
