Unhappy Confusing problem... - 09-17-2007, 11:00 AM

Hey guys, before i begin, let me introduce myself (kinda of the wrong place ). You can call me Jay, 21 yrs old, i'm from Montreal, i've been a Bell Mobility customer for about 6-7 years now and i finally pulled the trigger and bought my first Blackberry, the 8830. This is solid. I was using a Palm TX before (loved it too) but i had to make a decision eventually. You know carrying a Palm and cellphone was annoying

Unfortunately, this is my second BB 8830 (in less then 2 weeks). The first, had lots of issues. Screen flickered, screens colors inverted at times, unusual instability, even in the "core network" i had a hard time sending a message, making a phone call and using the data (one way or another), i'd have to soft reset it in order to make those calls and such. And lastly, the battery, it was is if it was leaking (make sense?)...so i changed it, and i got a new one (no problems). Now, for the past 2 days, i've noticed an issue with the battery.

It's the weekend, so i don't use the phone as much and surprisingly yesterday (sunday) i left it on my desk throughout the whole day. I made 2 calls (about 2min) and sent one sms message. From the moment i woke up, it was fully charged, at the end of the day, it was at 10-15%...now it's sitting in front of me, and every 10-20 minutes or so, it's dropping 5% off the battery...

I checked everything, i looked at the battery FAQ that you guys have posted up and i get no good news in the end. I checked if it was GPS, no. Browser, no. Any other programs? They're all off. I thought stupid at one point and said "i have a micro sd card in it, maybe if i turn it off, can it improve the batter?", so i did it and i got nothing...

As a side note, i'm tech-savvy, so if you're interested in helping, you can lay down the cards no problem and of course thank you in advance.

Thanks for your patience
Jay

It's going mad...i woke up this morning at 100% (this was at 8:30am), it's now 11:00am and it's at 50%...i have yet to make a phone call or make use of SMS, BBM, Jive, Browser, GPS and so on...

...only checking the battery...

You had an application running in the background that was eating your battery. Alt + Esc to show apps running in the background. Most likely something checking the internet.... IM program or navigational program?

Louis, welcome to the Forums.

A battery pull to reboot often fixes the oddest of glitches. If you have looked at all the programs running in the background at the time the battery ran down so fast, I don't know what else could be recommended to do.

Honestly--I would give it the charge it needs through the day, watch it, etc., and see how it goes over a week or more before making a solid judgement on it. I have seen a few posts on here of complaints on the 8830 battery but not so many to alarm me.

Good luck.

Just having JiveTalk running idly in the background will be a major factor in shortening your battery life. And with Blackberrys, just closing the app's window doesn't necessarily shut it down. You have to go to the Blackberry Menu while in that app and choose "Close".

Oooo thanks for the responses guys...i took out Jive completely (dont need it, just a demo). The only apps i see running are Phone, BBM, Messages, Home Screen, and Browser (i'm guessing those are default apps because i cant close them, like the rest).

I did the battery pull out about an hour ago and i can see a difference already...it's stuck at 50% (since this morning), which is a good sign. I'll do the battery recycle over night and like JSanders said, watch it.

Thanks very much for the help so far. The guidelines (FAQ) you boys offer are great for beginners and have learnt alot since i first read them. I encourage many to do the same. if you're spending $800 on a product, get to know it like your right hand does in your pants

Those four-five apps will always run, can't close completely. Make sure you don't have an active web page running, though (like a weather site constantly updating a radar, etc.). But the closed browser at the bookmark page will always run.

Default Ring tones and alarms - 09-20-2007, 03:55 PM

I have been reading the postings on ring tones and in one long thread, one of the posters claimed that there is a way to alarm calender entries but he did not mention how to do it. Can this be done? How?

Thank you,

J2iron

Please don't double post your questions, and using another thread of discussion to throw out your own totally off-topic question is called "thread-crapping" and is considered impolite.

Please do not think everyone is impolite. Sometimes people make mistakes and post in the wrong forum.

I don't think your double post was impolite, and I don't think everyone is impolite. As a new user I wanted to give you a polite warning before someone else jumped you about it. Double posting might be the mistake, doing so in another thread is a hard mistake to make.

Enjoy.
