Default Latest 8820 OS: AT&T Mobility - 4.2.2.305 / 4.2.2.169 (Multilanguage) - 09-21-2007, 01:47 AM

Quote:
Software For BlackBerry 8820 (TM)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.305 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.2.2.305
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.2.2.169
* Software Platform: 2.4.0.67
* File name: 8820M_PBr4.2.2_rel305_PL2.4.0.67_A4.2.2.169_AT&T.e xe
* File size: 79.88MB
Download Site Link: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...E4F82F9F00E7D4

Instructions for installing:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. It's 4.2 SP2.
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Apploader
4. Plug in BB and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization." Don't unplug from the PC & Don't remove the battery unless the spinning hourglass has been there for 30 minutes or more. If the hourglass has been spinning for more than 30 minutes continuously you will need to wipe the device with JL_Cmder (close out of Desktop Manager during this process.) You will then end up with a white screen with small icons and an error code number like 507 or 543.

If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507/543, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8700g: Opera/9.50 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.0.8993/58; U; en))

I don't believe the 8820 software works on the 8800.

Excuse the novice question but wouldn't the BB 8820 be shipped with the most current software? If not, what is the difference between the newest and the one before and is it worth the upgrade. I just bought an 8820 but haven't received it yet...

Though it may have this loaded as the native OS via AT&T, other carriers may not have this OS version, and can make use of it using the information contained within these threads. =)

Any 8820 OS can be loaded on any 8820. Just follow the instructions in the first post.

As an FYI, I downloaded this package and attempted to load it over the SmarTone/Voda package released earlier this week. The DM indicates the SmarTone is a later package. Is this true?

Compare the version numbers. On your device look in Options >About.

John,

I am a bit confused by this. Perhaps you can clarify it for me. I have d/l both the SmarTone and AT&T 8820 OS software identified here. They are:

SmarTone:

Applications: 4.2.2.160
* Software Platform: 2.4.0.70
* File name: 8820CJK_PBr4.2.2_rel287_PL2.4.0.70_A4.2.2.160_Smar Tone_Vodafone_(Voda_HK).exe

and AT&T

Applications: 4.2.2.169
* Software Platform: 2.4.0.67
* File name: 8820M_PBr4.2.2_rel305_PL2.4.0.67_A4.2.2.169_AT&T.e xe
* File size: 79.88MB

When I look at the 8820 >Options>About, I see the 4.2.2.160 (Platform 2.4.0.70) currently loaded on the device.

When I looked at the AT&T package, I see the version should be 4.2.2.169 (not sure what the differences are). As the AT&T version at 4.2.2.169 is higher than the SmarTone 4.2.2.160, I expected to be able to load the AT&T version, but the DM indicated the AT&T version was actually a step down and warned me before I loaded it. I can only conclude the platform 2.4.0.70 (SmarTone) is actually higher than platform 2.4.0.67 (AT&T) and the version on the device is not what DM uses. What am I not understanding? Thanks for any insight you may have.

Have you tried changing themes? It seems to be a common occurance after moving icons.

I'm trying to get my hands on a 8820 to use both with my ATT acct and while In Africa on my Glo (local gsm account).

Do you know if the ATT model is unlocked or do we need to generate a unlock code. ?

Thanks

The only difference between the AT&T model and the official RIM one, is the AT&T one has their own software and is locked. You will never get an AT&T branded (or any other carrier for that matter) device that is sold unlocked by the carrier.

This thread is for the 8820, not the 8830. Did you mean to post in the 8830 latest OS thread? I can move it for you.

no, i loaded this 8820 os onto a 8830 and the 8830 dont memory leak anymore, the same 22 megs i boot with with a battery pull, after a week of not turning or pulling the battery, if i clear my browser cache, it comes back with 22 megs free

So, you loaded the 8820 (GSM OS) onto the 8830 (CDMA OS)? Did you do anything special to load it?

I loaded the App Version of the software my platform is 3.0.67 being the .sfi file by verizon, app version all the running apps, are 4.2.2.169 which to me atfer a week, i can go back to the orignal starting ram i had which makes me very happy.

all i did was load the 4.2.2.169(305) cods, you cant load the .sfi file, but all the cod files, you load will be updated i cant load the firmware since their is a device diffrence and hardware wise, one is gsm vs cdma.

edit: ss of what i am talking about

They Fix many Bugs, but they also bring 1 Bug! At a Today Screen Theme it's not showing anymore Meetings or what ever at the Calender.

But it's shows now the WiFi connection on the Display:

Generally the file names with Chinese start with CJK....I don't think "M" for Multi language supports Chinese.

I have a new 8820 and cannot add any applications with Desktop Manager. Media Manager works fine for loading ringtones and pictures but when I go to application loader it says its not the right software for the device. I used the CD that came with the phone but no luck!! I have 4.2.2 so what am I doing wrong and how can I get the applications to load and be recognized. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

If you don't have an OS loaded on your desktop PC, you can't add apps. DL and run the OS and then you can.

Is there a way to unlock themes on the 8820? I have a new 8820 with the latest AT&T OS. Is there another OS to install to get other vendors themes?

Question 11-01-2007, 12:18 PM

Sorry for the apparently silly question, but can I download new software from BlackBerry or would I be better off downloading it from AT&T?

Does it matter?

Is an 8820 an 8820, or is an AT&T 8820 special?

You can load any version of the 8820 software on any 8820. There is usually nothing special about one carrier's version over another carrier's. Just go with the latest version regardless of carrier.

Question 11-01-2007, 01:01 PM

Thanks John.

So can you tell me the difference between:

Software Download for AT&T:
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.305 (Multilanguage) (79.876 Mb)
which downloads 8820M_PBr4.2.2_rel305_PL2.4.0.67_A4.2.2.169_ATT.ex e

Software Download for BlackBerry Support:
BlackBerry Desktop Software v4.2 SP2 (Multilanguage) - Dated 18May2007 and is 387 MB
which downloads Desktop Software v4.2 SP2 (Multilang).exe

Software Download for BlackBerry Support:
BlackBerry Desktop Software v4.2 SP2 (English) - Dated 18May2007 and is 231 MB
which downloads Desktop Software v4.2 SP2 (English).exe

I can surmise that the 3rd one is the English Only version of the 2nd one,
but why is the first one so small?
