Am I missing something here? My regular old LG phone could send and receive SMS text messages while in a call. Very usefull when you are on a long call and have a headset. Anyway to enable this on a 8830?

Also would be great to be able to access internet functions, ie google maps while in a call so I could give directions to someone without having to hang up and call back.

Sorry, you can't transmit data (i.e. internet) while on a call.
There is not a setting to enable SMS while on a call.

While waiting, I found an option in:

Options > SMS Text
Priority - Urgent

And it let me send and receive text messages while in a call.

Still was not allowed to send or receive a e-mail message, nor go on the internet, but I'm happy that SMS's are coming through while in a call.

SMS should work fine while on a voice call, since it doesn't use data. SMS uses the voice network.

Data features (email, web, maps, etc...) will not work while on a voice call.

yeah, it should have by default, didn't realize you needed to change that priority option over to Urgent just to have them come through on a call.

Must be an OS option, not present on mine.
