Default 8830 (vzw) question - 09-28-2007, 08:23 PM

Hello all, I am new to these forums and was searching the internet but couldn't find an answer to my question. I currently have a Verizon Smartphone that locks up constantly and is very unreliable. I was thinking about making the switch to blackberry. I use my calendar and address book frequently along with texting (sms). I was wondering everyones thoughts on switching over, will I be satisfied? Is the 8830 blackberry reliable? I will be getting the Motorola Q or 8830, what do you guys think I should get? Sorry if there has been another post like this or I'm in the wrong section. Thanks for the input though.

The 8830 is a great device. If you're coming from a regular phone you will be very impressed. Just don't expect GPS. Other than that it's all good.

I second that - don't get the Q. Two of us in the office have the VZW8830, and one guy has the Q. Let's just say he's a bit envious. Also the BB battery life is great compared to the Q - just make sure you read all the great posts about how to get the most out of your battery. And finally, if you have a BES at work your decision should be a no-brainer.

Good luck!

I actually switche fro the moto q to the blackberry 8830! The blackberry is way more user friendly and I don't have the "headache" that I suffered when using the Q!

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830: BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

What was the problem with the Q? I do not know VZW is coming out with a newer Q model shortly.

The Q kept freezing and it would lock up when staying idle for a little while! It had cool features, but it was just unreliable!

Default For my parents???? - 10-11-2007, 01:06 PM

I use WM6 because BB doesn't support my medical apps yet. My parents totally surprised me yesterday when they called and asked which BB to buy. They are both technologically challenged, but are retiring and are interesting in phones that they can use worldwide, check email, pay bills, etc. Is the 8830 a good choice for them? I personally recommended they jump to another carrier that doesn't disable features and has better roaming capabilities... does anybody second this? Or do you think the 8830 on VZW will be okay for them? Thanks in advance!
