Default 8820 w/Wifi vs. 8800? - 09-29-2007, 09:56 AM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a 8800 without a data plan and was considering getting a 8820 w/Wifi. Will this save me money versus getting a data plan for my 8800. A guy in a AT&T store told me that I still need a data plan for the phone to work but I think I've read differently. Am now holding off getting the phone because now I am too confused. I heard that you, only, can't get the rebate without a data plan. I don't use the Internet all the time so I didn't want to pay $39 every month for something I don't use much. Also, can you get AOL mail with Wifo? Hope I'm not sounding too dumb!! Any advice would be appreciated.

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8800/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

You will need the data plan to full and complete use of the internet, data and email, on any BlackBerry. WiFi only basically speeds up the internet connection.
You can't get all you want for free.

If you are happy with your 8800 without a data plan, I would stick with it. The 8820 deos get the internet if you are within a WiFi network but doing the internet on a BB screen still leaves me wanting. Most of my WiFi is at home and I prefer the 17" screen on my XPS 1710 when not on the desltop.

I am at a StarBucks ALL THE TIME. At LEAST twice a day. There is wifi in all of those, and I usually don't carry my laptop everywhere I go. I may be a computer geek, but im not that big of a geek to have it strapped to me 24/7! lol.
