Default Weird issue with BB Messenger...little help - 09-29-2007, 02:51 PM

OK,

So I am not a huge texter, but do at times rather than make a call but usually never to make small talk. Anyway, I use the BB messenger and tried to add 2 people to it that both have blackberry.

They are husband and wife (this may make sense in a minute...or not)

I can add the wife no problem, then when I go to add the husband, it says that the wife has been added again (or at least it says her name) even though I specifically picked the husband from my list.

Anyone want to take a shot at this one.

thanks

rob

I would look up her address in the address book and write the PIN down. I would look up his address in the address book and I am guessing you will see they both have her PIN number?? I don't know in either case check the PIN numbers in the address book.

BB Messenger is Blackberry specific. You can only do it blackberry to another blackberry. You need to add their PIN numbers to the address book in the PIN field. You will have to ask for their PIN numbers.

Does that make sense?

Tip: Don't use email addresses for BBMessenger. It works better with pins. Delete their contacts from BBMessenger. Make sure you have their pins in your address book.

Select Add Contact in BBMessenger.

It will bring up your list of contacts.

Highlight the contact to add (don't click on it) and hit the menu key.

It should prompt you to add using email address or add using pin. Select Add using pin.

I didn't even know that you could add an email address to BB Messenger! Interesting! Learn something knew just about every day!

If you just select the contact without using the method above you will get email by default. In order to work, though, the email address needs to be tied to a pin. The benefit of using an email address is that if that contact changes BB's and changes the pin/imei on their email account the message should still go through. However, I find most of my contacts know enough to let me know that they got a new BB and their pin changed. I use the pin method.

Doesnt BB messenger use the phone number as the form of contact...and if that is the case, then why would it show the same person when I try to add the other person (as per my issue from post 1)

thanks

rob

No sir...It uses pin to pin, without a doubt. Phone number makes no difference using BBMessenger.

Default Add contact no PIN option - 01-24-2008, 03:22 AM

When I am in BB messenger and I want to add a new contact I am not given an ption to type in a PIN. I only have the ption to select from address book or use once. I tried hitting menu as opposed to selecting the contact but get no PIN option.
Ayway I want to adda new user and they never can respond to my email requests and vice versa.

We both have added other users with no issue.

Any thoughts on how to add a contact via PIN when it only gives me an option to add contact by email invitation?

Wirelessly posted (BB 8860: BlackBerry8320/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

You need that contacts pin in your address book. Or use the menu key on "use once."

Yeah, add the PIN number to their contact information located in the address book first. After that, go into messenger and them as a contact. Should have the option to add them as a "PIN."

Default BB Messenger Contact Info - 02-24-2008, 12:08 AM

Hi. Could some1 pls tell me whether the "contact info" (status of a BB user) in the BB Messenger is regularly 'polled' (updated all the time) or you actually have to send them a message to get their current status updated? If the former does that mean when you are overseas (global roaming) that it can use 'data' even when not sending messages? If so how can you close the program and stop this happening withour deleting all your contacts

It's constantly updated. Yes, it can use data when not sending messages. All IM appliations do this.

You can't disable BBMessenger.
