Default Brand new 8800 won't turn on - red LED and black screen - 09-29-2007, 10:44 PM

GF just got a brand new 8800 today from AT&T (Cingular brand on it). It was working fine, and then all of a sudden it stopped working. I tried a search using varying terms, but couldn't find a definite answer.

The issue is that the screen is completely black, and the red LED blinks constantly at a steady rate. We tried numerous routes to see what is wrong with it, with no luck. Even tried the battery from my 8700c and the same problem persists.

Any solutions?

I would return the device ASAP. No reason a new device should give up like that. There are fixes out there but don't know if they'll even work. They include reloading the OS, etc.

well... for some odd reason, it became alive!!! works fine now (for the past 3 minutes)

she said she took out the SIM card and battery, waited few minutes and put both back in, it automatically turned on and booted like it was supposed to...

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

I would return to ATT and exchange for a new one! Maybe it was a fluke but why risk it get it replaced after 30 days they will send you a refurb! Get into att ASAP

Take a look at this. Maybe you have the same issue.

Thanks all for the advice! We discovered about the 8820 (sneaky salesman didn't mention the new model and they only had 8800 on display) and exchanged the 8800 for the 8820.

Yep the ATT salespeople are selling the 8800 if they still got stock. You HAVE to ask for the 8820 and even then they are not hyping the WiFi funtion what so ever!

They are just doing as they are told!
