Default Tethering problem with Dell Latitude XP -- Standard Modem Failure - 10-10-2007, 01:46 PM

I have worked with ATT and Dell on how to resolve this issue, but no help. I have been working on this problem for 2 weeks. I have an 8800 that continues to give me a hardware failure using DUN and Communication Manager from ATT. I have done several uninstalls and reinstalls, several config changes to each product, but no go. Finally, yesterday, I decided to use a desktop that wasn't dell and it worked. So, I used the Lat 820 and 620an it failed, but when another another desktop brand, i no problems. I do not know where to begin my troubleshooting at this point. What is so different about the dell latitude that makes this happen or could there be a windows xp setting that gives the errors.

I have an HP now, but used to work with a dell lat 610. For me, it was the comm drivers supplied by dell. I had to mess around with comm drivers by the actual vendors instead of dells (usb and bluetooth - especially the bluetooth stack). You have probably already gone done this route. But if not, it is worth a shot.

This may not help since I'm on Verizon. I've got a Dell Latitude that I connect to my 8830. When I first installed it I had problems with the modem driver. Verizon's Access Manager installs a modem driver that over writes the driver that BB Desktop Manager installs and Verizon's driver would not work. My solution was to uninstall both programs install Verizon's first and BB Desktop Manager second to get a useable driver installed.
