Default BlackBerry Javelin - In The Wild - 06-16-2008, 02:13 PM

BlackBerry Javelin in the wild - Engadget Mobile

Javelin pictures. Looks to me like this will be the replacement to the Curve, size wise at least.

7290 -> 8700 -> 8800 -> 8300 -> 8310 + 8100

Whoa... I have to say, I'm not too much of a fan of that one. Looks kinda retro. Maybe it'll grow on me.. eh, seems unlikely.

we had our friendly rim rep visit our store(T-mo) earlier in the week and hinted to some new devices. we may be getting a curve addition in red which will include video recording option, and a "new curve style unit". saw the post for javalin today and stuff starts to make sense.

also says since at&t's bold has been pushed back to sept, obviously wont be seeing one till who knows. also stated that tmo may only carry bold on the business channel as may be too costly for retail @ $549. id still pay. maybe?

Looks nicer then the Bold, except for the lack of 3G. It looks like the keyboard is better and it doesn't have that cheesy looking faux leather back that the Bold has.

no he is a RIM rep, @rim.com, not one of those hired bb reps from outsourced companys. we have a few of those too.

as for the att comment about being pushed back to sept thats just what he said, so take it for a grain of salt. i just work for tmo so i dont have any inside info into att devices other than what he said.

Ducs, since you work for T-Mobile so any ideas when will T-Mobile get BB Bold and BB Javelin?

BB javelin won't be coming until at least early next year end of this. BB bolds however should be within weeks. I know that they are in production as we speak. Also there are javelins out there @ RIM so im guessing their into revision 2.

As a T-Mobile user the Javelin is right in my wheelhouse. It would be nice if it were picked up by T-Mobile - they're the obvious choice with no 3G yet (one market doesn't count, IMHO). I hope it comes in priced below the Bold.

Are you saying TMO could get the Bold relatively soon and the Jav later? Is that still your understanding? That'd be great but seems odd they would bring out the 3G-less unit later than the one with 3G.

That is not going to happen.

AT&T will get the Bold 'soon'. T-Mobile will get it some number of months after AT&T does. The Javelin is still an unknown. However, since AT&T will have the Bold and their (T-Mobile) 3g network is still incomplete it would make sense for them to pick up the Javelin as a stopgap until their version of the Bold is released at some unknown point in the future.

FWIW - probably nothing - a TMO store rep swore to me just now that they've been told they're getting the Bold (not the Javelin) in October/November. That would be consistent with the usual 3-month lag from when ATT gets a new model and also consistent with the Jav being a lower end model that's due for release next year as others have posted. While TMO doesn't have extensive 3G service as yet, it is going national over the course of the next year and it would make sense to offer a 3G model for those thinking longer term than just a few weeks/months.

If T-Mo releases the Bold before the Javelin, there is no way they're going to sell more than a handful without making them the super-cheap option. Like $ hundreds less.

I personally don't care much for the Bold. I don't really even care much about the whole 3G hype. I live in kansas.....so this isn't gonna be a big thing for awhile.

I want the Javelin based on the fact that it has taken what I love about the Curve and improved on it. I don't like the keyboard on the Bold either. I much prefer the Curve-style over the 880-style keyboard.
