Default i can't believe i figured it out - 04-30-2009, 05:10 PM

so i got the 8900 and in less than a week i suddenly notice that battery life was terrible. i tried every solution i found on the msg boards and nothing really helped much. i got a replacement 8900 from my carrier and had the same problem. before sending both back for a different model, i wiped the blackberry. goto options>security>general settings> press the menu key, then select wipe handheld.

after this, my battery works just as good as any previous blackberry i owned. i did this to both 8900s in my possesion and got the same result. i'm so glad this worked. i hope this helps the rest of you.

please note that when you wipe you blackberry, it will delete everything, so backup your contacts, files, etc.

I did the wiping thing the first day I received the phone and noticed the battery issue. Not sure if it was too soon. But, being that I've had the phone less than 2 weeks I called T-mo yesterday to complain and they are sending out a new battery. So even if the new one last longer, I will still have another as they said I don't have to send the battery back to them. They are even sending it express delivery without any cost to me! Will report back once I receive new battery, charge for a full 24 hours then use. I pray this works! I absolutely loved my 8820. I may have to go back to that if this doesn't work since I haven't had the heart to sell!

If you are using WIFI be sure you have WMM turned on in your router! If your router doesn't have this get a new one!

Yep, the "Leather" holster is the cause of the battery drain. It's well documented in most Blackberry forums. I have used an OE Blackberry skin for mine and have regularly updated the software. With Bluetooth and Wi-Fi permanently on I get 2 days out of it easily before I recharge and thats not even completely dead, which I don't think is bad. If i turned these off and used as and when, i'm sure it would be longer.....

I just received my 8900 about a week ago. Heavy web browsing, medium email and light phone use. My battery is about 40-50% at the end of the day. I was maybe a touch higher with my Pearl 8110. With that being said, the battery life is about the same compared to my 8110. I thought it was supposed to be better??? Oh and I am using the OEM leather swivel holster.

OK. I have had the BB Curve 8900 for just over a month. I have had battery draining issues. Even more so, besides seeing my battery drain in under 5 hours with minimal usage, my device gets disturbingly WARM to the touch. What is that all about??
I have today gone to my service provider and am receiving a new phone and battery. I had tried keeping my phone in stand by mode, use a silicone case instead of a hard case, and taken some other steps to try to alleviate the problem...but no success.
Anyone else experiencing this? This is ridiculous and VERY disappointing. RIM needs to get their battery life and functioning for this phone up to par.

Once I did the latest update my battery life doubled if not nearly trippled. I send hundreds of texts/IM/BBM's and use Facebook here and there through out the day.

Where can I download the latest update? The BB software doesn't detect it.

Notice how many see their battery life improve after wiping the device or changing the OS? Here's why it happens: when you wipe or upgrade the OS you it automatically shuts off all of the searching that goes on with different applications, and the searching is what's killing your battery. Some program is running in the background that you don't know about killing your battery. The wipe/upgrade stops that process. Pretty simple and it makes sense. That's why people who are satisfied with their battery life don't notice that it gets better after these upgrades: they don't have a radio running all the time. It's happened to me several times--battery sux, I go looking for what's open, can't see anything, then I go from app to app and close it. Problem solved. It's some sports score or weather thing that's updating a lot.

That did it for me, thanks! My battery life is now equal or better than my 8330 was!

FWWI, after the wipe, I re-installed all the apps and brought the phone back to it's condition before the wipe, the battery is still good for two days or more! Before the wipe it was only lasting around 6 hours! Go figure.... anyway, thanks again, I would have NEVER thought of that.
