Can't get maps to work

Anybody know how to get maps to work on my 8900 on O2?

I can't find it on the phone anywhere.

try changing your theme to another theme. also try doing a reload of the OS and make sure to select BlackBerry maps if your device doesnt show it installed in the application area of the settings portion. Settings -> options -> advanced options -> applications, should be listed there if installed

What do you mean "get maps to work"?

To get GPS, especially for the first time, you need to be outside with a clear view of the sky and have Location Services on. Could take 15-20 minutes or more to get that first position fix.

You need a BB data plan for most of the map applications to work, i.e. BB Maps and GoogleMaps. Map data is downloaded as you use it and not stored on the device.

Take a look at the GPS & Map section as well.

.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear.

I mean I cannot even see the BB Maps Icon, do I need the data plan for that? My data plan 'should' start sometime today.

Then you "should" get the icon..

Mark Elvin 02-04-2009 05:18 AM

So maps is not funtional without the Blackberry data plan then?

seattleboi1982 02-04-2009 10:41 AM

that would be correct, but you should have the icon regardless, just without a blackbery plan, you wouldnt get maps to the device.

Perhaps it is hidden?

that is a possiblity. the best way to find out is to check in the applications setting.

Settings -> Options -> Advanced Options -> Applications.

if it is installed on the device it should be listed there as the screen shot below shows:

if not, download the operating system and do a reload and click options and select BlackBerry Maps

All sorted now, thanks for the help.

Once my data plan had been enabled by my provider I got 6 or 7 new icons, including maps.

mrc00l88 02-05-2009 09:45 PM

all my icons are shown, bb maps is installed in the advanced options.. i have no icon for it either...

seattleboi1982 02-05-2009 09:46 PM

what theme are you using?

mrc00l88 02-05-2009 09:49 PM

precision zen

mrc00l88 02-05-2009 09:55 PM

i edited the blackberry.alx and noticed i got different icons with each theme, i reinstalled the original blackberry.alx so it would just have zen and silver, and still no bb maps/..

seattleboi1982 02-05-2009 10:33 PM

did you check the applications folder? I am on the T-mobile Precision and it was in there.

mrc00l88 02-05-2009 10:42 PM

hmm.. not there

seattleboi1982 02-06-2009 01:02 AM

is this a t-mobile 8900? or a different carriers?

HaTaX 02-06-2009 02:14 AM

Try going into your address book and highlight an entry with an address stored in it. Hit the menu button and look between "Activity Log" and "Email {entry name}". There should be an option that says "View Home/Work Map", if you choose that it will launch BB Maps and show you their location.

If that's not coming up, then it would seem you need a service book to see it. I think AT&T users have something in their service books that stops BB Maps from working, but I'm not 100% sure.

I have T-Mobile, maps are loaded in applications and I can find locations using my address book, but no Icon for maps. Very strange....

Anyone else with T-Mobile missing the maps Icon, or maybe the maps icon is'nt supposed to be viewable.
