Default Shortcut to turning off screen backlight

Please Login to Remove!

This is the first curve model I've had so I'm wondering something. Every other BB I've had over the last several years had a button (the power button) that would instantly turn off the screen/keyboard backlight. Is there a way to do this on the curve? The location the power button was on other models is the now the screen lock button. The power button is the end call button.
I've looked at assigning a shortcut key to it but no luck. Not only did I consistently use this feature but this model has the worst battery life of any BB I've had, so looking at ways to conserve battery life. I've lowered the screen brightness and shortened the backlight time. Also running the latest sw.

are you running prod 114? 133 is a bit better on battery life and so is beta 144, even moreso than 133. I've also found that hitting the lock button makes the screen turn off after a very brief time.

Yes, running 114, the latest from TMO. Guess I should try one of the others to see if that resolves.
On my 8830 I could charge every other day with pretty heavy data use. This one isn't making it through one day.
Other than that I love it.

Totally know what you're saying. I'd suggest trying one of the newer versions. I haven't seen any stability issues or problems with 144.
