Pull out your battery and put it back and then hold the back (escape) key and hold it until the phone boots up. This is what i did and it worked. You might have to hold the key for less but i haven't test it yet.

Works for me. I'm running .76 on the storm 9530. If I hold dows the escape key till it boots, safe mode comes up. It took about 5 minutes though. Thats a long time to hold :(

Although the document was the Storm.. it should work for almost all the newer models.

Seems useful. Question: it says use this to remove unwanted apps. Why can't you just remove them in the "unsafe mode"? When in the safe mode I see that 3rd party apps will not activate. Can you use this mode to do everything you normally do with the apps inactive to see if they affect the phone operation or battery life? I assume the icons for Googlemaps, 411, etc will still be there but you cannot open/use them in the safe mode. Am I making sense?

Say one of the apps/themes causes your device to lock up or error out when it boots up. In Safe Mode, you would be able to access your device to remove the problem app/theme, where as in normal mode, you wouldn't be able to as your device would be locked up.

Aha. I heard that some new themes would result in the phone stopping on the tmob screen when the phone boots up after a battery pull and people had to use DM to remove the theme. So you could use the safe mode to do it from the phone in the field. Nice.
