| Basically, you need to be outside and have a clear view of the sky to lock onto the satellites. If it has been a while since you last used GPS,or you have moved from the last known position by a couple hundred miles, it could take awhile, 15 to 20 minutes or longer.
I have found that my 8800 locks on faster using GoogleMaps since that app uses cell tower triangulation to locate you within 2500 meters or less and this seems to help the device find you faster.
Might want to check out the GPS section as well.
