UMA is only needed to browse the net IF you don't have a data plan.

If you aren't getting UMA, there is an issue with your connection. Try rebooting your router.

Unlicensed Mobile Access or UMA, is the commercial name of the 3GPP Generic Access Network. UMA would appear on your screen if you connected to a Wifi network and your mobile network preference is a Wifi. (Options > Mobile Network > Connection Preference)..

Without a data plan, if you set your connection preference to "Mobile Network" and if you are connected to a Wifi network, you should still be able to browse the net.

I would suggest deleting the wifi network profile from your device and reconnect to it again. Do a battery pull before you delete the profile and connect to it again.

Hope this helps !
