When I receive an email or text and I unlock the BB the message is open on the screen, is there a setting that this does not happen and instead I have to click on the email or text to view.
Sometimes I receive work related emails that are private and not for anyone near me to see.

Check your message options and see if it is set to, 'New Mail Open Automatically' or something like that. If not, then it might be because the last time you had checked your e-mail, your device might have just locked itself, so it would just reload it to your message's screen after you unlock it.

It's designed this way. If you remove the device from the holster or unlock the device within ~15 seconds of receiving a message, it will open automatically.

The only way to prevent this is to wait a little longer before reading the message.
The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.
When you take things for granted, the things you are granted, get taken.
