Default Dumb question number 608: How to use BeamReader

Please Login to Remove!

OK, I may be an idiot, but all I want to do is use BeamReader to read a PDF on my media card. I installed the latest BR for my 8900, did a battery pull just for good measure, and there is absolutely no indication of BR anywhere on my device except for the "advanced" section of Options, where the app can be uninstalled. BR talks about a File Manager and all kinds of great concepts, but where the hell is it? :(

I spent a year on an iphone and came back to BB last week for no particular reason. Starting to wonder why. At this stage of the game the ability to read PDFs and other files on a BB's media card should be elementary, absolutely fundamental. Running all over the web to PAY for simple (and a very limited selection of) PDF readers is ridiculous.

Sorry, just ranting. The 8900 is a very nice phone but other than the pretty face the OS is apparently just more of the same.

The 8900 has built-in ability to read PDFs, if you haven't noticed.

BeamReader will give you additional features/functions (when you find it).

Look in your Downloads folder, first.

Thanks for the reply. I know the device has an internal reader but that is attachment-based. I need to be able to read off files saved to a media card. I was just messing around and from what I can tell BR isn't compatible with the 8900.

BeamReader is perfectly compatible with the 8900.

I figured that, but no app icon shows up anywhere despite reboots & pulls & "unhide icons". I'm running the latest OS 4.6.1.168 on a locked Rogers 8900.

And you looked in the Downloads folder? If it's not there you could possibly have downloaded the wrong version of BR.

In the BR download package there are several versions based on OS so I deleted the unrelated versions, leaving only 4.6, to no avail. I had already tried it unsuccessfully leaving all versions present
