| Browser error: This is a Wi-fi service. Problem and workaround Please Login to Remove! I meant to post a question here about a problem I observed lately, but did a little trouble shooting first and found a solution. So I'm posting this in case anyone else is having a similar issue.
I have recently been getting an error message in the browser when I entered the URL into the address line manually. Going to the same site through a bookmark works fine. The message I receive is "This is a Wi-fi service. Please ensure your device has an active Wi-fi connection and try again." (see attached screenshot)
This is happening when I have Wi-fi turned off (I do that to preserve battery power). When I turn on Wi-fi the problem goes away, even if the 8900 does not connect to any Wi-fi network. Weird!
Since I still would like to turn off Wi-fi to preserve battery power, turning on Wi-fi all the time was not a good option. Workaround is as follows:
1) Go into Manage Connections
2) Mobile Network Options
3) Set Connection Preference to Mobile Network Preferred
4) Exit Mobile Network Options, then go back in
5) Set Connection Preference to Wi-fi Preferred
This switch back and forth has solved it for me. |
