Default 8900 with 8300 Holster Issue - 04-07-2009, 12:18 PM

I purchased the holster designed for 8300 series BB's for use with my 8900 since I felt the fit was too tight with the 8900 holster.

My local Rogers store told me that I would not lose any functionality, however my phone does not recognize when it has been holstered; only the out of holster settings are active.

Can anyone tell if it is a holster incompatibility issue or other?

Thanks in advance!

I think what you're saying is that the 8900 does not go to sleep when you put it into the 8300 holster. That's because they moved the magnet in the 8900 and so the 8300 holsters may not put it to sleep. It's been reported before, so I'd take the thing back.

I am using the 8300 leather vertical flap case and it does go to sleep when slipped in with back facing out.

As I reported a few weeks back, there's apparently enough variability in the magnet placement in the 8300 vertical leather flap cases so that about half of them will properly put the 8900 to sleep, and the other half will not. I love the way the case fits the 8900, so on my last visit to Best Buy, I tried about a dozen of the cases on the 8900, and bought one of the ones that consistently worked with the 8900's sleep function. The fit is perfect -- looks good, secure, but easy to get the phone in/out with one hand. Perfect case for me.

If you have the opportunity to try a few, you will most likely find one that works just fine.

mine old 8300 case works great with my 8900. There's a newer version (the one with the bb logo on the clip) that supposively works flawless.

I have the older model, but it works fine on my 8900, however, I use mine with a skin. It will only put the phone to sleep with the skin on, maybe because my holster is so worn and loose as hell.

Wirelessly posted

Just picked up a T-Mobile-branded vertical flap case that works fine with my 8900. It says "Compatible with BlackBerry Curve" on the box. Due to the slightly loose fit I'd say it was designed for the 83x0.
