Hi,

I'm very new to this BB world.. so forgive me if you have heard it all b4.

I bought a 8900 from t-mobile and i use it in Israel. The thing is that i dont have a data plan and i want to use Facebook, googletalk and twitter.

i search here and everyone says that you need a data plan for it.. my Q is why? i know that iPhone works just fine without data plan.. (dont tell me that i should switch to iPhone.. cuz i dont want to BB rules)

Is there a way i can fix it?

Thanks

The reason that you need a BlackBerry data plan is because BlackBerry devices are made to work with BlackBerry data plans. They go hand-in-hand like Kool-Aid and sugar, hamburgers and buns, Matza and Manischewitz, etc.

What's not to get? BlackBerry devices are intended for 100% connectivity, and that requires a BlackBerry data plan. You don't have one, so your device will NOT work the way it was intended.

I get your point.. i didnt intend to upset you..
Its just that i dont get why BB users cant choose or bypass it..

maybe when it first came out it was intended for 100% connectivity but 2009 with a lot of competition.. i think it would be nice to have the opportunity to choose (as apple did with its intel processors)

I'm not upset, I'm just not sure what else there is to get. I can't be any clearer. BlackBerry devices need BlackBerry data plans to work properly.

Yes, it is 2009, but the vast majority of BlackBerry users are still corporate users who need and want the reliability and security of the 100% connected BlackBerry infrastructure. Even with the rise in consumer purchases of BlackBerry devices, most carriers now have plans that are affordable for individual consumers. The bottom line is, if you want your device to work properly, you need a BlackBerry data plan.

You do have a choice. You can choose to get a BlackBerry data plan, or not. RIM is not forcing anyone to get a data plan. If you want to use the full features of a BlackBerry then you subscribe. Otherwise, you don't.
