Anyone else think the 8900 has horrible speech recognition for voice dialing. I have to speak way too loud and even in a quiet room it still misinterprets my commands. It is even worse with my bluetooth headset, a BlueAnt V1. I speak slow, loud, and articulate. Any ideas?

However you can leave comments on your opinion of the voice dialing. Just got the phone and may have judged it too soon. The biggest problem now is when I say Call (?) the voice reply that comes back saying "did you say call (?)" is loud and raspy, not a big deal though. The Blueant problem was operator error, it works great.

It appears that the voice dial is REALLY POOR on this model. I have problems as well. The recognition is AWFUL through Bluetooth. The reply is terribly distorted when it does reply, and then it is USUALLY is wrong. After repeated attempts I have to give up. Since the law now reuires handsfree use in a car I am seriously considering returning my NEW 8900. I have a Pearl that is 3 years old and this function is much better.
Why is this not being addressed and fixed by the manufacturer?
How did it make it into production in the first place?
Maybe when the novelty is over and people start to actually use the phone as a phone the functions that are important in a PHONE will be done properly.

The BlueAnt V1, that I now know how to use is absolutulety superb. You are limited to your preset speed dials and it uses one of them for Goog 411. Otherwise it transfers you to the address book and the horrible internal voice dialing.

I have no problems at highway speeds and speaking naturally to activate the speed dials. I very hands off headset.

My initial problem, to finally answer your question, was not knowing the correct command prompt to activate the speed dials. I was activating the internal voice mail and getting poor speech recognition. Also, I had to put the headset on, then turn it on and it prompted me thru the initial pairing. It would not pair by just holding it close to the device.

it sounds like you still have poor speech recognition on your voice dial. that is my problem. If I try to voice dial a number while driving it just plain does not work. does yours? Also recognition of a name for a voice dial doesn't work either. What is it that actually worlks ?

While driving, I have to hold the phone close to my mouth, speak relatively loud at a consistent speed, and be articulate. If you have pauses in your words it is worse than if you speak at a consistant rate.

The BlueAnt V1 solved all this for me. But, like I said you only have about 7 speed dials after you back out VM and Goog 411. That's plenty for me.
