I've just realized that I get triple notified whenever someone calls and leaves a VM on my 8900 (Rogers f/w). I get a missed call notification (ok), then a VM indicator icon (ok) and then an SMS saying that I have voicemail - all three messages come in simultaneously. Isn't that a bit redundant? Is there any way to stop getting SMS whenever someone leaves me a VM? I'd like to distinguish between a true SMS and a VM.

Which leads me to another question. Is there any way to separate a dropped VM ring tone from an SMS ring tone? Right now, because I get an SMS when someone leaves a VM, the notification is only the SMS ring tone which is set in the ringer profiles which is annoying because I can't distinguish whether I got a real SMS or if someone really left a VM.

This issue is a bit worrisome to me (explain in a sec), as I'm in charge to revamp the cell phone holdings of our employees (55 total) and there's a push for Blackberries.

Why I find that SMS thing worrisome is because the employees many times rely on VM being sent without having any other notification active.

Is this a network issue or BB issue? I've search high-and-low in the phone for a VM notification setting, but there is nothing, which leads me to believe that it's a Blackberry issue.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

I've tried the suggestions posted there, but still no luck. SMS & e-mail were already selected as separate folders, tried turning off the "notification" in my voicemail box (by calling my voicemail) but then I get no notification whatsoever of any VMs....

Never had this problem on any other phone - Motorola, Nokia, Sony-E ...

Been checking throughout the day googling 'till my fingers hurt from clicking links and it seems this "issue" is rather common among BB users. With all the options available on these BB units, you'd figure the fine folk at RIM would kindly address this issue over time. Seems like it's not a priority at all with them, or they're completely oblivious to this.

I'll open a "ticket" with RIM to see how far down the foodchain I can get with this... probably hit a BBrick wall down the first level though.

I have the same notifications. I read somewhere that the 'whocalled' sms is a rogers feature. Which is useful if you have your phone turned off or you are in the subway. You can call rogers to disable the feature. The vm and missed call notification are standard i believe.

Indeed, the "who called' feature is great, I really like it.

What really stinks is getting SMS everytime someone leaves a voicemail. Sadly, more so that there's no possible way to set a reminder "beep" if VM isn't checked over a period of time.

Seems like pretty simple and obvious stuff to miss on a business phone!!

I'm convinced that this is a firmware issue as well. I once had a Motorola and a Nokia that wouldn't play nice and behaved the same way as the Blackberry - getting SMS whenever someone left a Voicemail, but once I re-flashed the phones with fixed firmware, both were able to distinguish VM from SMS again with no issues...

I'd say "get with it RIM".
