hey~ I got my bb 8900 recently and I have a question regarding wi-fi. I connected my phone to wi- fi, but how do i know if I'm using the wi-fi to surf the web or using my own data plan? When I go to "Service Status"....BlackBerry Internet Service: Connection: Wi-fi?

Does that mean I'm connecting through wi-fi?

Ugh, mine says Mobile Network. I'm having so much trouble with this! I think that means you're okay though if it says Wi-Fi.

honestly don't take any chances... i know with my provider they told me if i was to lose connection it would automatically connect to their data...the best thing to do is to call your provider and tell them you want a data block...that way you won't be using your provider data...also when you do that make sure you change the default browser on your black berry (set it to hot spot browsing)

Yeah. You can rename the WiFi network (my one at home uses a Netgear router, so it said "netgear" I renamed it HOME) you see the name. Also if you're on Tmob you'll see UMA with a signal when you're on WiFi too.
