Blackberry 8900 Doesn't Recognize My T-Mobile SIM Card

I just turned it on for the first time but it says Insert Sim Card at the top and I can't make any calls or send messages or anything else. Is there something I need to do?

Can not having the Blackberry data plan be the reason that I'm getting this message? I called T-Mobile and they turned the data plan on and they said it could take from 2 to 48 hours. Can the data plan have anything to do with this? Please help!

Welcome to the forums.

Are you sure you have the SIM card inserted properly? Try reseating your SIM card.

I've tried. And i've tried restarting it too.

My blackberry has it's Mobile Service Provider set as AT&T. However I have T-Mobile. It doesn't let me change it though. What can I do? Is this even the problem?

It's weird though because when I turn on my blackberry the T-Mobile logo comes on. =\

Do you have another SIm you can test it with? Borrow one from a freind or relative ?

Two things can be wrong.

Your SIM Card is bad. Does another t-mobile phone read your SIM? It can happen.

Or, the phone is bad, it can't read SIMs. Once again, try another t-mobile SIM in here. Goto a store and do this. That should tell you what's wrong, either phone or SIM.

Maybe a third reason:
Have you actually put the SIM card into the slot? Or, have you placed it properly?

So the problem is either the phone, or the SIM card, or You.
Either way, going to the store will help identify the problem.

I can't even do the "How to Check" thing because the BB doesn't even recognize that there's a SIM card there so the step where I'm on the SIM card page I can't go any further.

I tried my SIM card with an AT&T SIM card and it didn't work either... I'm going to try to go to T-Mobile today and see if they can figure out what's wrong with it. I'll keep you guys updated.
