Default Instant Messaging on Curve 8900 on AT&T

Please Login to Remove!

I just received my BB Curve 8900 through AT&T today and although I'm overall satisfied, I'm having an issue with IMing. I know the T-Mobile version of this phone comes with IM clients installed. However, when I tried to install AIM through blackberry.com/aim it says my phone does not meet the specifications.

I am aware there are better clients out there but the regular AIM client uses SMS, which I have unlimited of. I do not have unlimited data, which most of these other clients use.

The Unlimited Messaging package claims to include IM (which makes sense since the default app uses sms), how should I go about getting this? Or if there are other clients that use SMS, any recommendations?

My apologies if this has been asked before but most questions relating to the 8900 still naturally relate to T-Mobile.

Any advice is appreciated.

Good beejive for blackberry.

It cost money but it doesn't use SMS, it uses data. And you get to connect to most chat companies.

Oh I have a question regarding this. Under "Instant Messaging" for a TMobile 8900, there's an AIM App. Does this use Data or SMS?

I installed both aim and yahoo on an 8900 with att via the blackberry app world app. Both were free. I had beejive on my 8310 but only had a device license. That was a much nicer client.

I think the apps that come preloaded on your phone from your carrier use SMS/text whereas the ones you download from the BlackBerry website are data based.

Is this Blackberry Messenger that comes pre-loaded? This IM service is no good 50% of the time I see my friends as offline, sometimes when I send a message to an online friend it takes about 5-8 seconds to send and maybe after a good 5-10min both parties appear offline and can't send anything really annoying. Anyone recommend something else?
