I hope the next upgrade is actually worthwhile!
Having the same problem with UMA to mobile transition and back, but my battery life is up to 2 DAYS! I have to turn off wifi and turn it back on and it switches over but other than that its fine for me the battery life alone is worth it

last couple of upgrades seem to have diminished my bbm copy pasting ability. wondering if anyone else is having the same problem.

i used to be able to put copy the history from bbm ad when i paste it into notes to save it, i would have enough history to take up almost all of the available characters in the notes program up to about 2000 lines of text or so, so that I would need to split the conversation up into 4 or even 5 emails to get a record of it saved to my inbox. but since i started using the upgrades from the website i've noticed that when I copy history, it only takes about 300 lines of copied text. whatever lines of text there were in the bbm conversation prior to the last 300 or so are all lost.

has anyone else had this problem with the upgraded firmware?

thanks

This problem seems to be related to wifi handling. Turning it off and using the mobile network for sms and calls improves the quality.

If you're using UMA, call quality is heavily affected by limited bandwidth considerations (i.e. if you're downloading things simultaneously).

After upgrading, my call logs no longer show the incoming, outgoing, and missed icons. Does anyone know how to get it back?

Edit: NVM.. I found the settings.

I had communication problems with T-Mobile recognizing my 8900 for data after upgrading to this release and went back to .231 with no problems now. I have no complains about .231 and will just wait for 5.0 to be official!

Can anyone confirm whether this pack has the Japanese language fonts installed?

Default OS version number question - 07-15-2009, 04:22 PM

When everyone refers to .250 or .114 which version is that? in the phone in about it is referring to v4.6.1.xxx but when i see threads with new OS's released I see two of them with a / between them. I'm assuming it is referring to the second set of numbers after the / ?

Thanks

If you at it.
the first number refers to the PACKAGE version the second number refers to the APPLICATIONS version
OS's are usually referred to by the APPLICATION number.

Installed .250 on my second (wife's) 8900 last night. Everything seems to be working OK with both.

I have this issue (yes, I've deleted the Vendor.xml file) with this upgrade that I've never had any issues before with any other upgrade.

When I upgrade, it gives me 3 choices:
4.6.1.250
4.6.1.231
4.6.1.114

I select the first one but then it says no upgrade available. I've wiped the device several times with no luck. If I select .231, it asks me to confirm a "DOWNGRADE." WTH?

The same question: Better battery life from .231? It's needed to upgrade to .378

Nope, wasn't the issue. Problem was that DM 5.0 was checking the internet for legit version compatible with my phone everytime I connected it. I went around this by disabling my wireless before connecting my phone, x.250 came up and the reinstall/upgrade was performed without a hitch.

Took the plunge and upgraded. I like it so far. The best improvement: wi-fi connection. Prior OS was notoriously fussy and buggy. The verdict is still out on battery performance since I just upgraded last night. Stay tuned...

It's for the Blackberry 8900, no matter where you are or what carrier you use! It supports many languages.

Default Why I am being pushed by BB8900 to downgrade to previous version - 08-17-2009, 12:37 PM

  • Software Platform: 4.2.0.113
  • File name: 8900M_PBr4.6.1_rel378_PL4.2.0.113_A4.6.1.250_TIM_I taly.exe
  • File size: 123.34
Download the OS file here:

Instructions to install on ANY 8900 from ANY CARRIER.

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

thanks, Caribe95[/i]
Dear Sir; I successfully upgraded my 8900 to this suggested lastest upgrade few days back my device is in perfect shape no complaints or issues. However; when ever I connect to Desptop 5, its pushing me to downgrade to more prefferred OS..Please advise why it is so and what action if any I should take thank you for your feedback ( located in Dubai)

The rumor is that OS 5.0 is going to be out sometime this fall. So if that is the case why would RIM want to waste time on OS 4.6 when the new OS is almost ready for launch on the 8900?

Default Spell Checker Missing? - 09-06-2009, 01:39 PM

The upgrade went flawlessly and the OS works great... BUT, I now seem to be missing the native spell checker, it's just not there. Any insights? Is there a certain file I should try to re-load into the device?

Thanks!

I was running the beta version of this for several months. It worked okay, except for resets when scrolling in the browser when zoomed. It wouldn't reset every time, but it happened often enough to be a nuisance.

Today I got the "JVM error 102". I was unable to do anything with the device. Battery pull didn't help; JL_Cmder couldn't do anything. I called T-Mobile BB support and they couldn't fix it either; so I was handed off to RIM. They walked me through downgrading to .231, T-mo's latest official release. So that's where I am now. I think I'll keep it a while and see how it goes.

I have noticed one thing: With .250 I had a weird issue, described here:http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-...ml#post1443305.

Now that I've downgraded to .231, I notice that this behavior persists. That is, after a reset, Live Search is running, and in order to stop it I have to go in through the Application Switcher and close it down. Going in through the home screen icon only starts another instance of it. And Mobipocket still can't be closed at all. And now Google Maps loads on startup too! Can anybody explain which programs load on startup and why?

Update: So much for "wait and see" with .231. My battery was down to 45% by noon today, with no special extra usage. I downloaded the TIM release of .250 and installed it. It's a bit different from the beta version that I had before, notably in the amount of free memory available. Odd.
