Which OS do you think has the best battery life

I was thinking about a small poll for everyone to vote which OS has/had the best battery life. We all know that this was the first and biggest problem of the 8900, so why not make a poll for everyone to find out, based on what others have discovered, whic OS handled this problem the best.

Bellow you can choose only one OS. Those are the only ones I could remember at this hour.

If you have any details about something, please write them down.

I ran all of the operating systems bellow (except .250) and my personal opinion is that .168 was the best in battery life.

Will your poll cover all models?

I currently use a Bold and I have had great battery performance with 4.6.0.247
My girlfriend uses a 8820 and gets great battery performance with 4.5.0.139

Well, not sure how much the OS really has to do with, IMHO, it depends on where your (3G, non-3G or fringe area) and how you use the device. The OS hasn't anything to do with those two issues.

Maybe one OS will work better for your circumstances over another, but I doubt that it is an answer for everyone.

Many times, an OS upgrade fixes one thing, such as improved battery performance, but it breaks something else. My advice has always been if your device really works the way you want it to, then don't try to fix it with an upgrade. It is easy enough to carry and plug into a charger when needed.

OS had a heck of a lot to do with it when you had .114 installed on your phone when you first bought it... I upgraded to .206 and the difference with the battery was night & day.

Nope, only for 8900.

OS definitely has to do with battery life. Over 90% of the people are using their phone in the same manner every day. They rarely are doing something new and that alone can't influence the battery life too much.

I agree with what Dubdub said about leaving the phone alone if it works good. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." BUT where would the pleasure of trying and testing new stuff go?

I have to say .206 OS has been extremely good on the battery life for me. Heavy texting, Bluetooth, WIFI, and moderate phone calls all day. Right now I'm sitting on a little less then 2 bars of battery life.

anything but the original .114

it is the other little things about the different OS's that concern me. my current .231 is great on bat life but my biggest problem with it is the Incoming Call screen freezes for a few secs after answering a call.

duane534 06-16-2009 02:34 PM

I've ran almost all of the above. I think .250 is the best all around. Battery life has been climbing progressively but for one of them that I don't remember which. No software issues, and the issues with streaming video have finally been fixed.

My thoughts on this are well known: It makes no difference. Radio use is what uses the battery up, and the OS doesn't use a radio, it just moves from screen to screen and grabs programs. People claim it makes a difference but there's no proof, and when you swap the OS it does shut down all the radios and resets everything. One thing always happens with a new phone: the battery sucks. That's because they're using lots of stuff, they install software that runs in the background, use GPS/BT, don't really know what's going on, and the battery dies and it's the OS of course. Then they get it sorted out and change the OS and all of a sudden the battery is better so that was the problem. Then they post it and everyone wants to do the OS thing right away. I don't think so. I still use the original .114 OS and my battery lasts 2-3 days. When the battery seems to drain faster I battery pull and that fixes it. It really depends on how much I talk.

i agree with TheBigNewt im running .114 and my battery is fine i use it regularly and have no problem with it i upgraded to .231 to see what all the hype was and the only changes i saw was my phone would lag on answering calls thats it my battery didnt do anything spectacular like stay at 90% after 3 days of non stop listening to music and surfing the net so i went back to stock wich works good for me at least till that 5.0 comes out :P cant wait. my 2 cents
