Red face New 8900 - Moving over Messenger contacts and ringtones

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I just got the new 8900 Curve. I upgraded from the 8300. I previously read that to move over messenger contacts I would use the backup and restore to select the databases that I want moved over. However, when trying to do that, I get a warning that "the databases that are unavailable in the list have been configured for wireless sync or wireless backup and are read only. You cannot restore or clear them" I was hoping to move the blackberry messenger over to the new device.
In addition to the above, I thought that I could move my ringtones over in the same manner or by bluetooth. However, I don't see an option in the 8300 to send ringtone via bluetooth.

Please note, that I didn't use the devise swtich wizard, since I am an on exchange and wanted a clean activation, as well as not carrying over any junk from my old device.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciatte.

Thanks
Craig

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry Curve 8900)

On your Curve 8300 go to Options > Advanced Options > Enterprise Activation. Scroll down so your cursor is after the activation date. Hold down ALT and type CNFG. Go to the Wireless Sync option and set it to No, then save the changes. You should now be able to use the Desktop Manager to backup the Messenger contacts.

I also do believe that once you activate the 8900 on the BES that those would be copied back, but I could be wrong.

Jeremy,

Thanks for the info, but it didn't work. It showed up when I backed up the 8300 data. When I go and plug in the 8900 and try restore some of the computer databases, they are greyed out again?

Did you already activate the 8900 on your BES? If so you need to do the same steps on the 8900 to disable the wireless sync. Then you can restore the items, then re-enable the wireless sync on your 8900.

That seems to work, the question now is which database should I be putting on the device. My blackberry messenger only shows 1 record, which cannot be accurate. what would the computer database be called with my contacts in?

That actually is the correct database. Mine shows like that as well even though I have more contacts.
