Default Improve your 8900's battery life!!!

Please Login to Remove!

I've owned my 8900 for about 4 months now and have been more than disappointed with the battery life, especially coming from a 8320. The more apps I added, the worse it got. It was getting to the point where I'd have to put it on the charger after only 12 hours of use. I've seen countless complaints about the battery life of the 8900 and luckily there is a simple solution...

Update the OS!

Just updated to 4.6.1.231 last night and the battery life has improved DRASTICALLY! I feel like I have my old Curve back. I took my device of the charger at 6am this morning. It is now almost midnight and I am still at 70%. Previously, I never would have made it this long without charging it.

If you haven't updated yet, DO IT NOW!

honestly, I'm in awe of this improvement. I'm no stranger to Blackberry's and their OS updates and this had got to be the most significant change I've ever noticed. I'm more excited about this than when I upgraded to 4.5 on my 8320.

Another thing which I have found that increases the battery life is to simply turn the backlight brightness from 100 to 10. There is not much of a difference visually, however this will increase your battery life by about 15 - 20%

Because your carrier hasn't released any updated os's. Now there are other carrier os's available and also some beta one out that are newer than that.

Ah, i thought the OS updates would come from RIM rather than the carriers. Thanks though.

Good suggestion! And you're right, I don't see enough of a visible difference to think I'm being cheated. In fact, the colors look richer. Nice.

The updates do come from RIM, just not always for your specific carrier. Check the sticky at the top of this forum for the latest OS updates. 231 is not the newest, but it's the one I've heard the best things about and after day 2, I can say this update has made my 8900 experience much better.

I was running the same OS. I'm surprised you could go that long. Are you running any apps? I run several apps that poll for updates. I was never able to get a full day of battery with normal use. I'm on day 4 now and still showing excellent results with 231. I don't think I've dropped below 4/5 battery bars in a day so far. Also, the phone seems to operate a bit smoother as well.

Something else that people forget to do all the time is turn off wireless and bluetooth if you're not using it. This will kill your battery.
