I set up the wifi for my 8900 and i'm wondering does it automatically use the wifi or do you have to tell your phone to use edge or wifi?

If you go into the "manage connections" bit of the menu and the WiFi box is ticked then it should automatically switch to using WiFi when in a set up WiFi area. When I'm at home it automatically switches to WiFi.

Note that some applications aren't designed to use WiFi.
Also, AT&T does not support UMA, so calls will always use the data (EDGE) network.
