I just purchased a new 8900 today and would like to upgrade the OS. what is the best OS available for this handset?

I am currently on the T-Mobile network but will soon be switching to the Cricket network for the unlimited everything package deal for just $60/mth. so i am looking for something that will allow the phone to be used on any service.

Isn't Cricket a CDMA network? The 8900 won't work on a CDMA network.

i was told that you could "Jailbreak" the 8900 to work on any network?
i may be wrong. in any case i would still like to upgrade the OS.

Jailbreaking is an iPhone term.
You can "unlock" an 8900 to use it on another GSM network (AT&T) but not on Cricket.

Look at the top of the 8900 forum for a Sticky Thread on how to upgrade the OS.

People tend to recommend that new BB users try out their BB for a while before upgrading the OS.

upon further research i have come to the conclusion that you are 100% correct! i contacted the "ohio cricket mafia" and have been informed that the GSM based t-mobile 8900 cannot be used on the CDMA Cricket network. i will have to sell the T-mobie and buy a sprint blackberry in order to do the cricket flashing.
