My google e-mail account is connected to my bb 8900 and it flashes red when i receive an e-mail but no sound and i have gone into the sound and setup my e-mail to beep when i get an e-mail, what else do i need to do?

ive recently installed gmail webapplication on my 8900 i cant find the icon anywheere on the phone.. i tried to reinstall and it says its already installed. any idea where the icon is?
