Yes, that is perfectly fine. Just delete the vendor.xml file. Once a device is unlocked, it will always remained unlocked. No way to lock it again.

4.6.1.231. Become familiar with the search button. Most of your questions have been answered before.

Latest OS: 8900 4.6.1.353/4.6.1.231 (English + East Asian)

vmin, to be more clear - if your blackberry is not currently unlocked, putting a different carrier's OS on it will not unlock it. Of course, as stated above, if your blackberry is unlocked, it also will not re-lock it. (Not sure which you were asking.)

That is the file that identifies the OS as being for a particular carrier's phones. Makes no difference if the phone is locked or unlocked -- the carrier code is in the firmware. If you delete vendor.xml, then you can install the OS on any carrier's phone. When the vendor.xml file is present, the OS will not install on the other carriers' phones.

The important thing to remember when upgrading your OS is to follow the instructions exactly as written. Failing to do so will result in failure to complete a successful upgrade.
