Default Problems Using 8900 as a Modem - 10-05-2009, 09:37 PM

I've owned a number of BB devices before and have never had a problem setting up tethering. However, that doesn't seem to be the case with my 8900. I am trying to tether using the Bluetooth modem. Pairing the device to my laptop was easy, as was setting up all the modem and connection settings per the instructions on this FAQ:

Using BlackBerry As Modem - BlackBerryFAQ

I can connect/authenticate just fine; however, while connected I cannot resolve any DNS and I can't even ping specific IP addresses. Any idea what my problem could be here?

You know I have followed (exactly) the setup posted here, and by my carrier (T-Mo) and for the life of me I can't get my 8900 to tether either. I have been able to connect my 8100, 8320 but not these two 8900s...

I will have to try again.

Cameron

  • Two 8900s on T-Mo both running 4.6.1.310 bis

Is your scenario the same as mine, i.e. you login/connect just fine but can't get to any IP address?

Same here. My 8100 and my 8800 had no problem, but the 8900 has no luck.

Instructions work fine for me. Posting via tethered 8900 on t-mobile.
Email doesn't seem to work though.

Are you running Windows 7? I have two laptops, the one with a XP on it tethers with 8900 just fine, With Windows 7 I can't resolve any IPs (DNS servers not responding) In both cases tether via bluetooth, same modem config just different OS.
If I set up Windows 7 laptop as a stereo device via bluetooth and start playback of music on 8900 with a laptop acting as a speaker for blackberry (creating a traffic on bluetooth link) then DNS issues disappears, in other words I have to listen to the music in order to get Internet traffic flow
