Default OS: 8900 4.6.1.456/4.6.1.310 (Multilanguage) - 10-12-2009, 12:07 PM

Software For BlackBerry® Curve (TM) 8900 smartphone BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.6.1.456 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.6.1.456
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 4.6.1.310
  • Software Platform: 4.2.0.127
  • File name: 8900M_PBr4.6.1_rel456_PL4.2.0.127_A4.6.1.310_AVEA. exe
  • File size: 123.35MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.Download the OS file here:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...F22A6C2A830A17

Instructions to install on ANY 8900 from ANY CARRIER.

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

sensemt, you'll need an OS with the words "EastAsian" in the file name to get the Korean language.

Hi,

The previous version (298) didn´t create an Add/Remove item in the Windows Control Panel.

Will try this.

Just so we're clear, I've tried searching for this but I guess my "mojo" is off. I couldn't find anything. I'm tring to upgrade but everytime I double click on apploader, it says "no action required". I also tried it through Desktop Manager to no avail. I deleted the vendor file before trying both methods and I see the OS under the Loader Files folder. What am I missing?

Sometimes these threads give us a little glimpse of what customer service reps have to deal with on a daily basis.

I am always have a little more empathy for them after reading these.

The new OS is still running good for me.

That's a tad pompous isn't it? Were you always an expert or did you have to ask someone else like the rest of us?

That's because your carrier has not released this update, that's what you get with a "wireless update"--only that which your carrier has released.

If you read the initial post in this thread, you'll see how to apply this to ANY 8900 device, regardless of carrier.

When I go to "about" on my phone, why am I only upgraded to 4.6.1.310 and Platform 4.2.0.127?
I thought the NEW OS version offered in this link is 4.6.1.456 Platform 4.6.1.310?

Thanks

Nor shall you - I too am a novice and have come here to seek help not to give it. If and when I think I can help I will do so - until then I will read and learn and ask questions of those better informed than I.

I seriously would not advise you to upgrade at this time until you are more comfortable with the process. It is not urgent that you upgrade right now.

Have you done the backup of the device yet?

Great, congrats, I knew those directions would be good.

You very likely have something other than english set as your default language... look at options > language and set each to the same English.
