Exclamation 8900 Buttons completely broken? - 10-29-2009, 06:26 PM

I've had my blackberry for about 6-7 months now and two days ago all of the buttons just stopped working apart from the track ball which will only scroll along the home screen and won't work when i click it.

Sometimes, the H and L key just randomly press themselves and the voice command app pops up and goes crazy! And now its started loading random web pages.

Eventually i lost it and threw it across the room....i've tried everything and it just won't work! Help!

Did the device get exposed to moisture or liquid? If so it may already be too late but you can pull the battery and read:

Possible something's gone wrong with the midplate's circuits. Had a Curve 8300 awhile back, and after about a year, my keyboard went.

If you find out it is indeed just the midplate that's bombed on you and you know how to take apart and rewire a blackberry I have a link for a new midplate that cost about 40 bucks, besides that you're looking at having to try and replace it the whole phone. (From my assumption!)

Started out with the H and K buttons not working, then half the keyboard went out, and right before I replaced it, it would decided to go rabid and either hold certain buttons down, or press the same button about 100 times in 2 seconds, needless to say it was SO much fun to deal.

Did that fix anything? If you hadn't done that, I might have recommended that you contact TMO for a warranty exchange but you may have eliminated that option by throwing it since it would be hard to convince them that the problem existed before any damage caused by throwing it across the room.

My friend was tellin me about a smiliar problem with his 8900. I quote

"Itz the 8900 and the keys are doing alternate functions

When a call is coming in the answer key doesnt work and it's not dialing out either... The keys r just all warped"

Could this be moisture as well? Will the keyboard need replacing?

I joined this forum to learn about this exact problem, I got my 4th T-Mobile 8900 replacement in the last 2 months on Friday. It seems that when I hold the phone to my ear when I am outside sweating the keyboard goes bye bye and only the trackball can scroll, cant even answer a call. I need the UMA wifi since T-Mobile only has signal in my driveway and not inside my house. I live north of downtown St Augustine.

Why do the keep sending "refurbished" phones and not new ones? I know the answer already.

I am trying to get me and our crew of the contract but I do like having the email feature since I own a business.

cloeee you are not alone,

One of my buddies had this problem. The way he avoided it (granted this is odd, BUT works.) He held the phone backwards. Now it was hard for him to hear, until he got a screen protector that blocked the speaker on the front and reflected the sound to the back of the phone. haha

Just odd looking seeing someone answer the phone facing the wrong way.
