Default Blackberry 8900 OEM holster issue - 11-05-2009, 09:24 PM

I just bought a OEM Blackberry 8900 holster and I am having problems with it. If I put it in a little it will go to sleep, but if I push it all the way down it wakes up and stays awake. I have set it to lock when in holster. Someone told me that the holster needs to "break in" before it will work properly.

Is it the issue with the holster itself? I am thinking of returning it but before I do I wanted to know from you guys.

Thanks

RIM never made a holster for the BlackBerry 8900 so it's likely that your OEM is actually a third-party holster. The best holster we've found for the 8900 is the Seidio.

You're right, I forgot about the leather holsters. I was only thinking of the plastic holsters.

And yet Ive never heard of plastic holsters for blackberries.

ninety5teg, this may sound a stupid question, which way are you putting the device in the holster? (screen first, or keypad first)
Try changing the setting to YES for lock when holstered and see what happens.

This is the one I bought and it has the Blackberry logo in the front as well as the etching at the back:

The keypad is going in first and I have changed the settings to lock when holstered..I am thinking that since its leather its needs some time to stretch out

My leather holster for the bold never needed to stretch out. It worked first time.
Its possible, that the magnet wasnt position in it correctly.

I didn't like the new holster for the 8900 so I used an old 8300 curve case but the magnet was in the wrong position to put it to sleep. I bought some 1/2 inch diameter flat disk Neodymium magnets from amazingmagnets.com and epoxied one to the back side of the holster spring clip. It works great and now the BB will go to sleep with it inserted either screen first or keyboard first. I was concerned the strong magnet might affect the phone or sd card but no problems in over 6 months.
