Default facebook app? - 11-06-2009, 02:34 AM

does the blackberry (8900 specifically, if its specific on each device) come with a facebook app already inside? or do i have to download it from appworld?

lets say if i dont get a data plan (just an unlimited email BB plan, no MB). How will i be able to get facebook?

Also, does anyone know where i can find what the Windows Live Messenger interface and use looks like? If anyone can post screenshots or video i'd appreciate it so much. Even a description of it's use would be nice

The '8900' doesn't come with facebook & windows llive messenger app... they are available for free on the appworld..

If you just have an unlimited email BB plan, then you wouldn't able to use these two apps, as they preconfigured to only work with BB internet services.

1. you can download these apps thru pc too.
2. if you cant browse from your phone, downloading them thru your BB device wouldn't be possible.

cheers,

Sid

People need to remember that email-only plans are just that, email + SMS only. Everything else requires data!

Exactly you need the (Full) Blackberry Data Plan.

To answer an already answered question. No it doesn't come loaded on the blackberry itself.
If you have the data plan, just goto your browser and look up "Blackberry App World" and download it OverTheAir through the browser.

(Much recommended, will save you alot of time looking for most of your apps through the browser, has a lot of free and paid applications to mess around with.)

You should be able too.
Once downloaded and installed, but to use the app at all you need a Blackberry Data plan.

I'm still not quite understanding.

Say i only get the unlimited email BB plan. and i download facebook on PC and installed it into my blackberry. Can i use the app with just wi-fi?

^also, to the person that says it doesnt come with Windows Live Messenger (MSN , basically)-
what????? okay, so if i download Windows Live Messenger app on my computer and install it into my blackberry, will I be able to use the app??? Since i have the unlimited email/IM plan? (It still grants me blackberry services, just no MB of data)

No, Facebook needs a full blackberry data plan.
As far as I know, this might be the same for WLM, but its worth a try.
Im not sure what IM programs the IM plan allows.

o___o how can i utilize my unlimited IM benefit if i cant even use my signature IM (windows live/msn)??

I asked my carrier about it, they give me vague answers. I've checked cellphones.ca, and it says 8900 has MSN in it installed. the new bold 9700 has windows live messenger already installed, correct? Can anyone confirm this?

Reason why i want to make sure is because i am getting a blackberry next month. And if i cant even access Windows Live Messenger and/or facebook, it will lower my liking to get it.

unlimited IM SHOULD allow me to access WLM right!

If you have the IM plan, then a subfolder "IM" or "instant messaging" (something of the sort) should be installed with all the different IM programs (AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, Ect.). Either when the phone is activated, or have your local provider install it.
Sidenote:
I'd assume that the IM programs that come with an IM plan are different, in some sort of way versus the ones that you download and install and use via Wifi, or full data plan.
(either considered "Add-Ons" vs. being considered a "third party" program)

From Fido regarding the add-on for blackberry:
"and unlimited instant messaging (including Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk and BlackBerry Messenger)"

So yes, you should be able to use Windows Live Messenger.
You still won't be able to use facebook because you need:

"If you’d like to use your BlackBerry® smartphone to browse the Web, access communities like Facebook and MySpace, or use other applications, you’ll need a Data add-on or Flex Rate add-on."
