Is it recognizing that it is a blackberry when you plug it into the computer?
(Not DM!)

If so..

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilanguage.html

Follow that and upgrade going through those steps.
(1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.")

IF it is NOT recognizing anything when you plug it in, I'll get back to asap on what I think.

EDIT: You would need to get a hold of a PC to upgrade through my steps, as I forgot you were working off of a mac! (Unless you're are able to crossover to a PC off you're mac (like Midnightdraven mention) it wont recognize the .exe through the link I just gave you.) My apologies.

The OP cannot follow that, as the OS file is an .exe and Mac's don't recognise .exe files.

Read the post above yours.
If the email icon has disappeared, Id say you need to resend services books, and the java exception, try a battery pull.

No, i meant for the exception a battery pull somtimes fixes it.
The only way would seem to be reload OS, but you need to do it on a PC.

You said that it says connecting for 2 seconds, and then nothing happens?
What are you expecting to happen?

I would make a trip to your nearest Provider store and have them reload the OS.

If a PC is completely out of the question, the battery pull didn't work, can't maintain a stable connection.

How old is the phone?

Mac's desktop manager must be vastly different to the PC's one, as I havent heard anything about a Device Name.

Refer back to my original post instructions I gave you, follow that link and the steps. You do NOT need to go through Desktop Manager.

EDIT: From your mates PC!

Remember to follow the steps after the download!
Once you get it loaded in, update if the problems are fixed.

Not if you followed the instruction correctly.
It should have updated.

Which OS have you downloaded?

You followed those instructions carefully right?
Delete vendor.xml, if you didn't the phone/computer not going to see the available upgrade.

OS: Operating System
Goto: Options > About
About the third line down should be a string of numbers with a "v" before it.
What is that string.

Example mine is; v5.0.0.314

Eilidhmck, I suggest just like we've suggested with dormer88 that you update your phone.

There is the current version link and some instructions to follow you need a PC, and to follow those instructions to fix the problem.
