Help with DM -
11-08-2009, 04:02 PM
Hopefully someone here will have an answer to this. DM starts up fine. As soon as I plug the phone in through the USB, DM will crash right after I see the PIN number appear. I tried upgrading DM, downgrading to an earlier version, uninstalling, reinstalling, etc. All the apps on my 8900 are from the APP store, so nothing weird installed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

So you've posted this 3 times in 3 different sections because you havent got an answer yet?

Ever thought that just no one knows the answer? Or that the right person hasn't read it yet.

Please only post your question once. It is bad form and the duplicates will just get deleted. And be patient.
Are you plugging the device directly into the PC and not via a HUB?
Is this a new 8900 or did you buy it used?
Try a battery pull on the BB. Also remove the SD card in the BB before you connect to the USB and DM.
Let us know the results.

Thank you for the reply.
1-I am plugging directly into the PC.
2-The phone was purchased new.

I'm curious if DM really crashes right after it connects. Do you have DM set to automatically sync upon a connect? If so, if you turn that off, would it still crash?
I guess if there were anything else weird going on you would have mentioned it, but I'll ask: Has the blackberry device been doing anything else that seems not normal?

Thank you for the reply. Yes I have tried turning off sync but the problem remains. Other than the DM problem, the BB device works perfectly.

Weird..... I guess if it were me I'd see what happens with a different computer. Is it the computer or the blackberry?

Another thought.... How did you uninstall DM? As I recall, you would normally run the installer except select the option to uninstall, is that right? But then I recall seeing instructions somwhere for doing a clean removal. If that's right, it might be worth a try doing the clean removal procedure, then try installing again.

Thanks again for the reply. I've tried it on my laptop, and 2 computers at home. Two are Vista and one is XP. So actually 2 computers were tried with 'fresh' installs. Really bugging me what could be causing this. Appreciate the responses.

So, no crashing on the other computers with that particular blackberry device? Just crashing on one particular computer?
I have to think it's something with Windows on that computer on which DM crashes, but I don't have a clue.
I guess if were me, I'd uninstall DM, run ccleaner, use the computer for a while, then install DM again and see what happens. Then the next step if necessary would be to reinstall windows.

Actually it crashes DM on all computers which is telling me it is something in the phone, but the phone works fine, has no weird apps installed, and I've never tried messing with/upgrading the operating system. All of the apps I do have came from the BB app store such as Facebook mobile, CNN news, and a couple of others.

Ahhh, ok ..... I think you said it still crashes with no microSD card in the blackberry, and even after a hard reset. What about wiping the blackberry and installing the OS again, or installing the latest OS? Have you tried that?
Also wondering if it could be a flakey mechanical connection at the USB on the device?
Or, what about the USB cable? Have you been using the same cable, or did you use a different cable with the other computers?

The cable is brand new (2 months). May try to see if installing the latest OS will help. Being a new BB owner (2 months), I'll have to do a little reading to see exactly how that is done. I remember seeing something on the site here about it, but did not read in depth about it.
Thanks for your responses!
