Once again... there's no problem for RIM tech support to look into. They simply tell you that to make you feel better and get you off the phone so they can move on to other support issues that are actually real.

This mysterious password changing phenomenon is nothing more than user error due to inexperience. The perception is that the password has been changed. Well, it hasn't been.
No amount of "me too" posts is going to change that.

Two people. Certainly a trend. Not happening.

So, what was the password on your phone? Was it numeric?

I had always been pressing the number 5 on the phone, but it really isn't a 5. I think it's a 5, but by default, it takes it as a "D" (alpha- letters).

Add this to the list of possible reasons why a password is not accepted, in addition to the list penguin3107 had mentioned earlier. So, it's not just simply someone forgetting their password.

Inability to type a password is no excuse.

Going back to your first post, it's not the strangest thing. When you entered the password you entered all letters but assumed one of them was a number. Given that you never pressed the Alt key the password didn't have a 5 in it but a D.

As penguin stated in the second post of this thread, there is no issue. Just inexperience. I have had a few users have the same issue. I bet if you set your password to be the same as before and connect it to you PC and enter the password with a D in place of the 5, you won't have any issues.

Default Its happening to me as well

I also am going through the same hell, I purchased my phone brand new and I have always thought that the password I enter is the only password but it's NOT.

I think the phone I purchased has a Password Protection Password, not sure why, maybe someone was just playing?. I am now also at attempt #9 of 10 and I am very worried. Can this be the reason?

thanks

Please re-read the 27 posts prior to yours in this thread.
You'll not only find the "solution" to your issue, but also several likely causes.

Hint: Post#2 and #5 are most appropriate for your current situation.

Question Lol

Thank you, I do know what the solution is you have told us all over and over again and we all do appreciate your effort!

Now, I will try and ask those that are going through this situation that if by chance did someone else prior to our knowledge add a password to the password protector and now I/we are being asked to give a password that we have no knowledge of? I for one have not forgot my password, nor do I have a problem with keys that some how become upper case or somehow switching to numbers instead of letters or vice versa.

I did purchase my phone from a respected phone carrier, did someone else purchase my phone and return it after the fact and after adding passwords. I can see where someone would think that Password and Password Protector Password would be one in the same and then confuse the two to the point where Blackberry locks you out of your own phone. Then there maybe others that would use the same password for everything in life, it happens!

I know for a fact I did not add a password protector password but did have a password to log on.

Why do we need a password protector password?

Yes it doesn't happen that often but I am sure that there are a few people out there that may have purchased their Blackberry after someone returned it. I'm just sure of it!

Someone has mentioned that RIM is aware of the situation but what exactly are they aware of? The way this thread is going I don't think anyone is getting the right help on here!

So once again I am asking those that have the problem not those that are answering with out any actual first hand knowledge

I do live in Toronto a 40 min drive to Waterloo the home of RIM, nice weather does it merit a drive to the experts.

Default LOL in even harder

Passwords don't just change on their own. It's simply not possible.
A few ideas:

1. You're on a BES and your admin changed your password.
answer: No
2. Your keyboard is damaged and what you think you are typing isn't actually what's being typed.
Answer: No
3. Someone knew your password and changed it manually on the device.
Answer: Some do know my birthday info and No, what kind of friends do you have?
4. You forgot your password.
Answer: No sometimes I would love to forget my birthday as I get older but hard to since I celebrated on the same day for 43 years. Shhh.. my password
5. You never knew the password and this is a strange attempt at finding a way to circumvent it.
Answer: No but I can see that happen.
6. Maybe someone owned your phone for even a brief moment and added passwords and did't delete the password protector password BUT deleted their password and then returned the phone. NOT intentional mind you!
Answer: Maybe.

Thanks

You keep mentioning this "password protector password" but I have no idea what you're talking about. There's no such thing.

What exactly are you referring to here?

Thank you

O M F G
So, basically, your issue has positively nothing to do with this thread at all, and you're just wasting everyone's time with this nonsense?

Which, they will tell you, is used to store passwords, credit card info and has nothing to do with the device password. It is an application and not part of the OS.

It has no impact on mistyping or forgetting a password. In the good old USA.
