I hope it is real; but it is looking more and more like a fake.

anyone notice the famous RIM evaluation model sticker is not present on the back. Even their eval and R&D models *usually* have the IMEI/PIN listed on the inside of the device. I obviously could be wrong (wouldnt be the first time) but there are alot of holes in this. Unfinished back, missing eval sticker, missing IMEI/PIN tracking sticker on the inside, the backwards B in blackberry.
Also, the SIM card slot doesnt mean this isnt a mockup of a CDMA curve. It is rumored to be a world version similar to the 8830.

At the least this has given us sme fun in speculation!
This bb is to unfinished I think to have even been a test device. Really the main board is exposed.

I know im new here i usually just surf around reading things(bet you heard that a million times) but this is a very big thing right now real or fake. its obviously fake to an extent, of that it is not a blackberry of any sort in my opinion. some said the it might be verizon curve but the pearl looked pretty much the same. and also many people have been saying it looks like a hybrid of a q and a centro etc etc. Which is were i thought of my idea, maybe its the new years celebration or something else i dont know. But i started to thinking, not too long ago there was a "leak" from motorola about their new phones and one of them was the ghengis, yes i know bgr said its fake and many others.
the sidekick slide made by moto has a trackbally looking thing which i have circled, and the ghengis fake thing is kinda curvy on the sides and has a very simalar keyboard. Im not saying this thing is the next Q or what. i know its not a blackberry the "B" in "berry" is backwards, zoom in close enough the menu button, the led, send and end all look photoshoped. form your own conclusions i just thought (with alcohol assistance) maybe this has a connection? maybe the original photoshoper wanted to make the ghengis then someone grabbed it and put blackberry on it. anyway sorry for the short novel, thats my 2 cents

One thing that I do like about that prototype (or mockup, whatever it is), is that the trackball is replaced with either a rocker or better yet, a touch disc (for lack of a better term). I like the trackball but it does tend to get dirty and clogged up.

It does look fairly small -- the MiniUSB connector looks big. You can even calculate the length of the device just by measuring the miniUSB port on the computer screen and scaling the measurement with the known dimensions of the miniUSB connector.

I agree, I am very fond of the thumbwheel and will miss it more than anyone knows. My eyes are not what they were in the past so I usually hold my berry at arms length. The thumbwheel makes it easy to use with one hand especially while driving. I have no idea why RIM changed to a trackball but they obviously ignored all the survey's I filled out.

One final thing I would like to make clear.....
Anyone who I might personally know at RIM in waterloo (that's quite a few) has never leaked information to me.
The information I have obtained (the fact that the device in the image is the 9000, HTML e-mail and 3G) has been from RIM eployees I do not know.
It's always been a problem at RIM where their employees will give total strangers small bits of information.
I've never personally known a RIM employee to hand out information. And whenever I ask I get the "I can't tell you because I'd get fired" response
Cheers to the guy with the Red badge for giving me information and for using this device in public!

Is it just me or is there two types of keyboards on the device. On the left it looks like there is a "new" design while the right side is from the 8800..

The leaked pics really look a lot like the q9 global. I saw one of those yesterday and the resemblance is striking. I hope the final BB 9000 design ends up being different.

According to BG, this is likely a continuation of the 8xxx series, to be released first on Vodaphone. The pic there seems to have a trackball whereas the one on Ebay did not. Seems to have a placeholder or something akin to the IBM/Lenovo touchpoint.
The full front view is a lot better looking than the angle on the Ebay one. Although I don't like that they appear to have carried over the 8800 series keyboard. It's cosmetically better, but I like the Curve's keyboard a little more.

very interesting... looks like a sleeker hybrid between the curve and the 8800. the 8800 is very clunky... Quickly ditched it for my curve.... after wifi, gps and 3g what else is left to look forward to? thought dialing?

Looks about 8800 size with rounded corners. Also has a camera, so really a full offering. Makes for interesting decisions. If it could get to Tmobile by the time they roll a 3G network, I'd be happy for a long time.

Hey well I've got a question about it then. If this 8xxx has HSDPA, which is 3.5G, will it work on ALL standard 3g networks? Because here in Spain, as far as I know, they're 3g, and I haven't heard of anyone say anything about 3.5g, unless it's just a simple update that they made that wasn't worth the publicity.
And what about memory? I didn't see any information about how much memory it's going to have! Is this the 1GB memory BB? That would be cool 1GB of onboard memory!
Regardless, I think I might get it! I think I'm going to first see how much it's going to cost ;). hehe.

I agree I wouldn't want a touchscreen blackberry. Most of us have had an touch screen device and hated it. SO why are we trying to go there. My kids have iphones and i would never (and i'm one of the crazy mac fanboy's you read about; that hangs on Job's every world).
But i really think the iphone sucks as a professional device, now as far as carrying it around to talk and show off sure.

ive never really like apple as a company, granted yes, they are inventive in the way they do things, but they are by no means the only ones to do it, or even do it well. The iPhone is just a PDA phone, and compared to many many others its crippled. Vzw gets thrown under the bus for crippling their devices, be it bluetooth, or gps, or whatever, and yet apple is just apple. the whole situation is pretty amusing. I am actually very suprised VZW passed on the iPhone, locking it to verizon would have prevented any sales to other carriers and would have netted them an amazing amount of converts from other carriers. seems like a bad business move IMO. one thing apple does very very well is generate excitement about a product that isnt revolutionary, and most of that excitement they get for free.

Anyone know usually after an announcement like the one with BG when the turn around to US National carriers would be? (i.e. how long after the rogers or vodafone release would it come to either Tmo or ATT?)
I am itching for this papa bear device, and willing to finally submit to ATT and ditch sprint since I agree with some of you out there, it just takes too long to get a new device with Sprint!

there is no usual turnaround time. its entirely possible ATT/Tmo will release a device at the same time or before. It really just all depends on money.
