Default Documents To Go? - 05-16-2008, 04:10 PM

There was talk that to get Docs To Go you had to be on BES. This really peeved me as a BIS user and I've been hoping we BIS users won't be shut out. Now that a few precious units have trickled out, anybody know what the word is on this?

I'm also curious about HTML email. It's supposed to be supported natively in OS 4.6 and I'm wondering if it's any more responsive than the third-party solutions like Empower or BBSmart on current models. Any word?

Tell us, Major Lawrence, what is it that attracts you personally to the desert?
It's clean. I like it because it's clean.

Docs to Go is not BES dependent. Starting with OS 4.5, the standard edition will be included with the option to purchase the premium edition. The difference between the two is that the standard only allows saving, viewing and editing of documents; while the premium allows that plus creation.

HTML email will also be included starting with OS 4.5. The caveat is that it also needs to be enabled server side as well. What this means is that until your provider activates HTML email on their BIS, or your company on their BES, you won't benefit.

What about memory and resources on older devices that have been upgraded to 4.5. Unless 4.5 handles memory VERY well, RIM devices like the Curve will have even more memory problems.

I heard html email was pulled from Bes 4.1 Sp 5 so html email will take a bit more time.

For the first time I feel the future might hold some different for me. It's possible I'm fooling myself but I'm willing to take the risk.

HTML email is BES 4.1.6/BIS update to be named later
Docs2Go requires BES 4.1.5 or BIS update to be named later

both require Handheld 4.5+

So it will be invisible unless activator via BES?? Thats odd. Seem like you get more revenue if it was just on there on the time

I am not disagreeing, but I am confused. I have seen many a post on various Berry forums from people using Beta 4.5 software, and they all seem to have Docs to Go standard edition, along with that, all the screenshots I have seen of the bold show the Docs to Go icons. How can it require a BIS/BES update if it is already on the device, pre-packaged with the OS, and people are already utilizing it?

I have been looking to get a BES service provider for many reasons and this would just be another one. I know there are threads about BES providers but I don't recall them being current. Is there any updated info about BES providers and who the top two or three are for a single BES user?
