Yes and no. At first it will be, but by the end of the year, it will be available on other carriers. At least according to RIM.

AT&T can say they are the exclusive until that period runs out, but they are smart enough to not say when it begins or ends. I'm just glad they are announcing it. Luckily for them they are not fighting against any other carrier for at least 4 years on the iPhone side so they can release the BB Bold sooner rather than later and leave RIM to just try and get the T-Mo version out the door.

Since the Bold is listed on AT&Ts website, I hope that means that it will be released very soon.

This is fantastic! Does anyone know whether we canadians will be able to buy this device, unlock it, and bring in back to Rogers?

That should save a few months at least I would think considering the previous delays that Blackberry has experienced rolling out new products in their home country.

Rumor is September for Verizon. Maybe same for Tmobile, but not too sure about the tmo.

Yeah ... true. The only thing that is certain though, is that it is coming to AT&T very soon. When the 8820 showed up on the corporate page like that it was released a month (or less?) later. But I admit, basing release date on a trend is not certainty, but its closer than the other carrier release dates.

Trumpeting it's arrival and not releasing it relatively soon after doesn't make much sense. I know Apple did that with iPhone, but that's a whole other animal. I'd bet we'll be seeing a release date for end of next month.

(Okay, I hope we'll be seeing a release date for the end of next month.)

I am pretty certain it will come within a month. That's how it was for the 8820 when I purchased that one for my mom. But I cannot say it will happen with 100% certainty. More like 90 to 95% just to give room for error. Lol

I heard this too. The fact that AT&T aleady listed the Bold on the corporate page, the email to all store employees not to take vacation as a hint of a large June release, and the lack of any info from Apple, tells me that maybe the Bold will be released before iPhone 2 in June.

I hope I am right. I wanted the Bold anyhow.

if the iphone isnt on the coporate site yet then i doubt it will be luanched before the BOLD... IMHO RIM has more more then apple in the telecommunication industry and i'm sure has way more say then apple, and has probably paid AT&T to release it before the iPhone

Yup. Its not there. And its not like Apple to stay this quiet so close to a supposed release. Also, multiple rumors of September launch by Verizon. If the Bold is released in August, and Vzw releases a month later, that's not much of an exclusive is it? My money is on Bold being released in June. There are just too many hints at it, and one is confirmed by an entry on the ATT corporate page.

When it gets released next month just think of a huge Filipino grin on my face and think of numetheus whispering "I told you so." Lol.

LOL And I am one Bold starving dude. I have to make up for defecting to the iPhone world, then to the Windows Mobile world by buying a Bold, then a Kickstart if it comes to AT&T. Kickstart for personal use of course.

Unfortunately I don't think so. I doubt the Bold would cause the need to delay vacations, so odds are that release spot is for the new iPhone.

Not sure why us Canadians cannot use UMA? Rogers offers it officially along with Fido. Also service books may update the 9000 - I say "may" because nobody knows for sure - to the correct settings on Rogers for BIS/BES/UMA.

At least news listed on AT&T's site is good enough.

Looking for that perfect signature, hmm.

Maybe. I'm trying to wrap my mind around why RIM would want to release Bold the same week as iPhone2.0. I know they don't necessarily compete for the same markets and yada yada, but still, it would seem weird. Although, perhaps if people are rushing into stores, they figure there might be enough tempted by a big display for the Bold?

Well first of all, Apple has not announced that they will be introducing the iPhone 2 so this is still up in the air. We are just coming up to their one year anniversity and everyone assumes they will be letting go of the iPhone II. ATT sells WAY MORE Blackberrys than the iPhone. So people WOULD be rushing into the store but do not think they are all looking for the iPhone II

No offense, but since you obviously lack any knowledge of Apple-related news maybe you should not offer your opinion in this regard.

The Apple online store as well as many if not not most Apple retail stores are out of iPhones for weeks. The WWDC is coming up in early June with Stevie giving a Keynote address- guess what he'll announce?!

As for your contention that at&t sells "WAY" more BBs, do you have any numbers to back that up? Apple did sell about 4 million iPhones in the first 6 months since launch. How about some hard figures regarding RIM devices with regard to at&t?

Yes I agree*. The time is very close to release the AT&T bold in middle of month or end of month by June.

I'm really starting to appreciate how when Apple announces a product, it's traditionally available the same day or very soon afterwards. The only exception I've seen recently is the iPhone and I know it bummed alot of Apple fans out that they had to wait so long after the announcement.

I think Jobs is going to announce the iPhone 2.0 at the convention in June and make it available that day rather than make everyone wait again.

So, that probably puts the release of the Bold in July. I wish it were earlier but I think that June will belong to Apple and July to RIM.

No kidding. We get it - he hates Apple. Great, good for him.

Virtually the entire tech world is betting on an iPhone 2 announcement at WWDC. Plus, I don't doubt that AT&T sells an incredible amount of BB's, but there have never been lines for them upon release as we saw with iPhone. So that bit about employees not taking vacation on a specific week in June point to Apple's new release, not RIM's. I'm hoping what this means is maybe we'll actually get the Bold earlier as a result, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Folks - Any chance we could see the Bold released tomorrow? If you go to the corporate web page shown in the first post and "download the file" the picture of the Bold has a date on it of "Tuesday May 20"

Would that be awesome!!!

Thanks,

Mark

It's like a Lost theory. What if one of those '3' emails that is on the picture is all the information on the release date?!

Good catch though on the 5/20 showing on the phone. We can always hope!!
