I come from WinMo, and with them if you want OS upgrade you have to buy a new phone. ppc 6700 5.0, 6800 6.0, etc.

I have the 8330 and I really like it so far no freezing. And from reading this forum BB will be upgrading the OS the entire line. I am shocked. Wow.

But what is so good about the Bold? It looks nice, but other than the costmic upgrade is there a real reason to have if you have a BB right now. Aren't they all going to run the same OS anyway? Since BB makes upgrades to all phones together.

I wish Microsoft would learn from this. lol you want the new IE you must upgrade to XP or Vista. HA

Processor, internal memory, new OS. Thats just a few.

Better screen, more powerful processor, improved keyboard, more powerful speakers etc.

The bold will also come with the latest blackberry os available. Allowing video recording, 16gb microsd cards html email and more. Other devices might be upgraded later but when that will actually happen and how well they will run is an open question.

It is possible to upgrade the OS on windows mobile devices. Check out the forums at ppcgeek.com or xda-developers.com. Those guys keep on top of every new os release.

3g, WiFi, GPS and a camera in the same handheld... I'd say that's the holy grail of BlackBerry devices.

Your first comment is not universally true. It depends on the phone, but many WinMo 5.0 phones are able to upgraded to 6.0, and pretty much all 6.0 are able to be upgraded to 6.1. If you would like an example of a WinMo 5 device that can run WinMo 6, just look at the At&t 8525.

BlackBerrys aren't all that much different. The 8700 series and certain phones in the 8100 series aren't getting all the same features with the 4.5 upgrade that the 8300 and 8800 series is getting. 4.6 is pretty much guaranteed to leave the 8700 series out altogether and will likely only offer partial upgrades to the 8300 series, the 8800 series, and the 8100 series.

It is just called technology. BlackBerry is generally a more usable and stable device than anything with Windows Mobile on it, but it isn't exempt from the things you are talking about.

Anyway, upgrades to the Bold consist of:
-Faster processor
-More Flash memory for system and application use
-1gig of storage memory on board (first time a BB has ever had standalone storage memory built in) + the ability to use SD cards up to 16gb in size
-Higher resolution screen
-3G, WiFi, and GPS all in one device

All in all, it is just a better device.

The BB Bold is the top dog in the BB line up. The ability to actually receive email with attachments and not have to worry about storage space with the 1GB of internal RAM. The ability to support up to 16GB microSDHC cards. The biggest fact is you can likely go months without a soft reset or lock up unlike Palm OS or windows OS. The iPhone 2.0 OS has not seen the light of day so we don't know how that will fair when 3rd party apps are loaded. But RIM has been great since I changed in November.

Okay. Trying to evauluate the new features of the 9000 over the 8800: 1) will it be worth the price to just make the change? 2) 8800 works great for me, but what exactly is 3G and is this significant enough alone to consider a change?

I agree, my friend has an 8525 running WINMO 6.0 with touch flo, and it actually runs smoother than the stock ROM. Better than the T-Mo wing which ships with 6.0 natively( funny enough the specs of the 8525 are better than the newer wing.... better processor, 3G... )... as far as the BOLD goes, it is the pinnacle of Blackberry technology. I for one will be selling my 8320 when the Bold hits. It is the device I have been waiting for RIM to release.

Internal GPS, WiFi, Camera, and 3G. All in one slick package. Throw in the Blackberry OS and what do you have? Teh win!

To me, immediate access the to the 4.6 OS may also have value. I am particulary interested in the new browser.

I've used the new browser on the Bold and I must say that that is probably what excites me more than anything. It's the most significant upgrade to the blackberry mobile browser since they first introduced it.

Aside from 3G, all that stuff is already available on existing blackberry models. im personally not too interested in the bolds hype. the flip phone to me is a much more interesting item for the single reason that its a completely different form from previous blackberries.

Yes, all those features are available on different models. As Penguin stated, this will be the ONLY model to have all of those features together.
